Great work! These people were clearly having a great time and enjoying your company. I think that's the most important aspect of all anyway. Too many mentalists communicate pretense and dissimilarity from their participants. You were approachable and likable, that gives room for your mind reading to be entertaining.
Here are some more specific thoughts: 1) Best not to show the face of the billet on camera--especially that billet. 2) Keep your process clear and consistent. Are you touching their heads each time for more clarity? Are you seeing their thoughts projected mid-air? If so, are they reversed images like a projector or are they oriented to you (e.g., when you drew a "2" in the air it was a 2 from your perspective--is that what you saw in the air? Should it have been a 2 from their perspective instead?) All of the steps in your process should be deliberate and necessary. 3) The reading was a nice touch. Keep it up! Turn those good practices into good habits! |

Great work, I hope to meet next time I'm in Bangkok. I live in Hong Kong. I suggest checking out Luca Volpe's work. I'll PM you for more clarity. In terms of your English I think you are doing fine and it looks like you will continue to get better. When you say "Focus" it sounds a little like you are saying "Forget" but that'l all I noticed. I like the touching the head process at the beginning.

I am sure that if you will think of it you will be able to think of another way to frame the mindreading. There is no reason to copy Johnson or Turner.

I think approaching tourists in Thailand is an amazing hook for you. I'm not sure what your motivation is or what character your playing but being a mystic seems to work for you. I don't know if you noticed in the background your fellow countrymen watching also in amazement? Seems that you could have just as easily worked for them as well. Thanks for posting Pacozaa I expect that you will be one of the greats some day.
No matter how many times you say the wrong thing, it will NEVER be right.

Dandin, Thank you. I am working on it. Both of them are the very first performers that I learn from.
Senor Fabuloso, Thank you for you kind words. You are on the right track! My fellow countrymen is my agent. Before we shoot the video, he offer regular gig once or twice a month for tourist but he only saw me perform once and curious if this mentalism thing is surefire. So we hit the street and show him what I got. I have work with him ever since. |

I'm always incredibly impressed with anyone who can perform in a language that isn't their own native tongue so hats off for that.
Regarding the video; I'm never sure, with these kind of, 'accosting people and showing them something' videos, how the video viewer can assess the performance of the performer from them. This kind of hit and run mentalism (and the same is true for magic too) allows little room for the performer to impose them-self into the mix over and above the effect they have chosen. So, while watching the video I find myself asking; are the video-watching audience and the participants in the video left feeling; 'wasn't that an incredible thing?' or are they left feeling; "wasn't that guy incredible?' It seems to me that with so little room for the performer to present them-self the emphasis and onus of these videos inevitably becomes overly weighted towards the effect rather than the performer. In this regard I believe it's bit hard to assess or attribute any meaningful comment regarding the performer from them. Is the performer great.... or instantly forgettable... I don't know. As a video it's.... ok. what was performed had successful conclusions and the participants seemed to react to it. But is such a video going to stay long in the minds of anyone watching it? or cause a watcher to feel compelled to 'share' it? (But then it's hard given this type of format to think what might.... and maybe I'm simply revealing I'm from a predominantly pre-youtube generation that hasn't yet fully tuned into this new way of putting oneself out there) One small point I would just make is.... at about the 3.00 minute mark you said, "I have another one..." and were about to show something else to those you'd been performing for. Those words, "I have another one.." (notwithstanding English isn't your first language) heavy imply that what you have been doing are in fact not expressions of some otherworldly attribute you possess, but rather it makes what you've done sound like they were things, or items.... items that you can remove from your pocket and perform..... which makes them sound more like.... 'tricks'. If, as I suspect will be the case, this isn't your intention you might want to do your best to avoid this kind of reference. I hope you find that helpful.

But don't worry, I think you shared your thought and great idea toward my video. Even though, you mentioned that English is not my first language but I am aiming for perfecting it along the way of this performance art. As living in a third world country, speaking only my own language won't get me nowhere. So your comment on the 3.00 minute is useful. Much appreciated |
