Lebanon Circle/Prof BC produces the best ones in my opinion, but they can be tricky to catch.

Looks great, but is considerably out of my price range Smile. I was looking for a budget item, like the Royal magic ones Smile

"Good" and "cheap" are often mutually exclusive.

You could just go to a thrift/junk/knicknack store and see if they have skeleton keys. A lot of genuine keys will work just fine for it and they're usually pretty cheap.

This really is the best advice if you are looking for authenticity and economy. It takes some shopping the bring-and-buys and boot sales (and haunting of the antique shops), but if you are willing to give a lot of potential keys a test roll until you find 'the one', I can assure you that this is precisely how many of us (myself included) acquired our first haunted keys. It is well worth the time and attention, too, because you are likely to come across many serendipitous discoveries of other extraordinary artifacts along the road!

Happy hunting.

Unfortunately, as well as a lack of access to money, I don't really have access to such markets where keys might be available - I simply don't have time or transport. Hence why I'm just looking to get a cheap key ordered online Smile

But I agree, that if I did have time, money and transport I would indeed profit from such hunting Smile

Cheers for the input.

But I'm looking for stock in the UK, not the US. If I lived in the US many of my magic problems probably wouldn't exist, lol Smile

You could try going into a branch of Timpson (or anywhere that does key cutting) and ask to try out suitable looking blanks. Most mortice keys should work.

Cheers Lo Pan, but as I asked in the OP, I'm looking for a make other than Magic Makers - but the Magie one looks interesting (how did I miss that one!?).

Does anyone know anything about it, and whether or not it's any good? I also notice that it's nearly £8 p+p, which is a bit crazy! That doesn't bode well - it's more than twice as expensive as the old Royal keys Smile In fact, all their products are ridiculously priced: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?merchant=ANK3......hrough=1

Mindmagic - that's an interesting suggestion! I'll give that a go when I'm next in a town. Good call Smile Thanks.

£8 is too much for the key? Did I really read it correct? I think it's very cheap but probably not even worth the money. Remember - you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Sorry, pawel that's not correct, no Smile

£8 is too much for p&p. That's in addition to the cost of the key itself (about £13). That's a total of about £21 for a key. You'll notice from the link that the same company sells a cheap fake tongue for £20 and a cheap break-away-wand at about £14 - they seem very high to me!

Now, compare that to the Royal key which I used to be able to get for £7.50 in total, and which here on the café and elsewhere usually got a good review and write-up.

Hope that makes more sense Smile

OH I see what you mean now. It is too much - you are right. But even more expensive is shipping from US to UK - ridiculous sometimes.

No worries - yeah the shipping charge from US to UK are brutal Smile Take Penguin's new m*rked cards, for example. I'd love to get some, but ... ouch!

I don think Americans know how lucky they are when it comes to magic sometimes Smile

Over here its pretty rare outside of the capital to even see a magic show, let alone a magic shop or society, lol Smile My 'local' (20+ miles away) theatre has only had two magic shows in the past 12 years, each running just a couple of days. No restaurants or bars/pubs have magic in them at all, and even those ones a few hours drive away which advertise themselves as magic specialists only have performers work there semi-regularly. I've only ever spoken to one other live, adult human who has been interested in magic Smile And so on and so on.

And all I'm looking for at the moment is a Haunted Key - you'd think a well-known prop like that would be easy to get, lol Smile

From what I understand, the Royal key is no longer being made. So you have to find some old stock somewhere or other alternatives.

Ah - that'll explain why everywhere is out of stock, then Smile

That's a real shame. Trying to find an alternative is pretty hard - the next nearest product is made by magic makers, I have no reviews of it, and it costs three times what the Royal key used to cost.

In my opinion The Magic makers's key works, it's easily available here in Europe and infact it even works... BUT it looks ridiculous and the feel is light and quite of "plastic" - and I've found that it's pretty impossibly to tune look better... So I've found WitchDocChris's post: "Good" and "cheap" are often mutually exclusive" more than true - especially with Magic props.

So now I'm playing and re-tuning my selfmade Key - and waitig for that some day PROF BC's Key's will be available again.
...Now tell me all about your pain
Down to the detail...
