Been doing magic for a long time now and have found that less I more in doing magic for people. With that, I always carry a couple of coins for my MB Transpo PLUS…A regular deck of cards of late for a few neat card tricks that I’ve finally gotten good at. And in my wallet, always there for those special occasions is Ultimate Positive Negative, always a stunner.😁 Been carrying it for years now and it’s fun to even remember that I always have it on me.😁 A special little piece of mentalism with 3 invisible coins that always amazes people. 😊

Anyway, that’s about all I carry around with me nowadays, just 3 closeup effects that can be presented as is or expanded upon as magical moments may allow. 😉

I'm 82, don't wear jewelry (never really did)and I don't carry a physical wallet (I have money clip that holds three cards and some folding cash). In truth I've never carried a wallet or worn jewelry unless I was going to a paid performance.

When I was a kid my dad always said man never left home without a pen/pocketknife, clean handkerchief, and cigarette lighter (even if he didn't smoke - it was to light a ladies cigarette), It makes for a good story lie today, especially for us older guys. I carried the three when I was a teenager and carry then (mostly) today. In those days you didn't get expelled from school for having a small pocket knife.

In high school and through my early 20s I carried a two knife set of Enardoe Color Changing knives, my handkerchief, a zippo lighter, and a money clip with a few bills (very few). The only card I carried (with my folding money) was my driving license. After high school I added my military ID then a few years later a couple of credit cards. I could and did perform fairly regularly with those few items. Knife through handkerchief, and/or flame through handkerchief (later when gas lighters were easily available), handkerchief made into several "puppets (mouse, dancer, and plucked chicken) and of course the color changing knives. If there was stuff to brorrow (paper napkins, fruit like an apple or lemon, or even a deck of cards) I could do more on the fly.

The color changing knives was about the only real, purpose made magic props I carried on a daily basis. Interestingly that is still true. I rarely leave home without a two knife set of color changing knives (Joe Mogar's for the past 25-ish years or more). If I am going out and expect to be asked to perform "something" I might add a TT and maybe a few coins. I've noticed that very few people in my area burden themselves with carrying coins. If performing impromptu I really prefer to borrow as much as possible.

A short piece of rope for Hunter's Impossible Knot. It's been my party piece for about 60 years. It particularly annoys mathematicians, engineers and scouts, who understand why it's impossible.

Some great, great suggestions here. Now that the weather is warming up, I will not be wearing a coat, so I don't carry so much.
What I can easily carry in my pockets all the time is 2/3 of a Johnny wong Triple. So I am basically carrying
a split coin. And a regular Morgan. I can produce a Morgan, Let them check it out, then produce another Morgan (split coin),
ditch the regular coin, produce another coin, turn them instantly into chinese coins and back, make one and both disappear.
did this yesterday to a cashier and her mind was warped, called the manager up!!! I want to start carrying some bill tricks as well. Thanks for the great suggestions. As Donny said years ago in this thread, magic can be great when you are prepared and it seems like you are doing magic off the cuff, but you can slip in some gimmicks and create miracles!

What do you consider the ideal number of truly impromptu effects to have ready at any time? I’m starting to think knowing three extremely well is more useful than knowing twenty superficially.

Absolutely true.

Think quality, not quantity.

Orphic wallet with a few billets, Jeff Prace random number generator, Bwave, overdraft, rainbow card, Jeff prace mon-key, anverdi mental die on my key chain.

But my current favorite right now is vanishing a half thin playing card into a TT and I tell them its like the movie honey I shrunk the kids, that I will shrink the card in my hand and send it over into their closed hands. Once my hands are clean I pinch my fingers hiding the miniature playing card and pluck it from their hands saying "cant you see it?" while its still hidden under my thumb and index finger. From there if theres any big skeptic in the group ill make a bet that their card is under my thumb.

why would someone use this odd looking generator when they can just use google to generate them a random number? $50 for this, honestly should be free as it looks like an ai chat bot can build it in a afternoon.

I'm wondering the same to be honest.. and what prevent them from thinking that it is exactly what it is: a trick website which doesn't really generate random numbers? 50$ for this sounds like a lot, I'm not even sure I would use it for free :/
