This all makes sense if you don't think about it.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

At the magic moment, nonsense makes sense, when you think about it.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Beneath the spiritual realm all is division and at the magic moment you are in the twilight zone; between the squares on the chessboard in corridors of power where the illuminate run around.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Do the "laws" of physics vanish with no humans to observe? No orbits before Hominid grunts?

Exactly.

Right and wrong would not vanish, but hubris would.

Hybris is more classically correct.

What about arithmetic? Would 2+2 still equal 4 if we weren't here to think it?

Addition is an abstract concept. Numbers are an abstract concept. Abstract concepts requires minds to think them. So, no... no minds, no concept of "2+2 = 4." Interesting though. Smile

PS - I could be wrong about that. But I'll go with that for now. Smile

It's an ancient conundrum. Doubt we'll resolve it here. But you never know.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

Hmm...is this the same guy who in another thread insisted that a tree makes a sound in the forest when falling even if no one's around to hear it?

Surely, the questions were rhetorical and the answers apparent. Please tell me you weren't suggesting that gravity became operational upon the existence of human beings.

How would you imagine verifying your hypothesis?

I say that while we're here and until we see evidence to the contrary we're probably gonna continue finding the consensus model useful.

Not everything that's true is verifiable.

Just to anticipate, I'll jump in and say observing behavior is not enough; you have to ask as well. Then take a stab at determining congruence.

"True for someone else" is a non sequitur. Perception is not reality. That's why the drugged people who step off of balconies go splat; it turns out they can't really fly. That's why drunk drivers crash; it turns out they're not really fine to drive.

Sondheim's Maria would disagree. "It's true for you, not for me..." There are certain matters we recognize can be "true for you, not for me."

West Side Story is my favorite musical. Life would not be worth living without it. That's true for me. Do you believe me?
