Received mine over the weekend, and just one word SUPERB! The first thing you notice is Phil has done an excellent job on the design, the photos just pop off the page and the whole aesthetic is a thing of beauty!
As to the material you know it is good when you are working through it cards in hand, and find yourself constantly laughing out loud at the deviousness of the methods! My favourite was Strange Gift and I'm looking at the possibility of using this as an opening phase to Pit Hartling's routine so I can do this straight off and then repeat it hands off with the spectator holding the cards under the table. Alongside the three main routines you also get a lot of detail and theory around the False Anchor premise, alongside some utility moves such as a brilliant mystery card switch, and a top stock and bottom stock control that are both simple yet chaotic looking. All in all an excellent purchase and I can't wait for Volume 2! |

What is the skill level required? In particular, without giving away a particular routine, what types of sleights / handlings are used?

Dang... as embarrassing as it is for me to admit, I find a passable DL to be one of the most difficult sleights around! This book might be beyond my meager skills, LOL..!
But it looks like it will be terrific for most cardworkers. Seth |

Hey Seth -
You will be able to perform my favorite two no problem. One of them you essentially don't even touch the deck and the other is just as simple where the hardest part is holding a card. Ryan |

Ryan and Madison--you guys are awesomely helpful. Just pulled the trigger! Can't wait to jump into my very first Ryan Schlutz experience! Who knows--if the effect inspires me as I think it will, maybe I'll triple my efforts at learning the dreaded double lift...
Thanks guys! Seth |

Thanks Ryan.
And you're welcome. I'll be off for a week. So that's ok if you don't send the book right away. |

False Anchors Volume One contains some of the most clever cards material I’ve read in a while, and comes from one of my favorite performers to watch. He fools me every time I see him. Ryan teaches three tricks in the book that are fun for spectators and performers.
The most clever effect in the book is a card control where the spectator does everything. My personal favorite is the card transpo that Ryan teaches. The moment when the transpo happens is very magical, and reminded me of Ryan Swigert's Kickback. Aside from the material, it’s the nicest looking book I’ve bought this year and has full color photos. Ryan has a limited number, and I'm not sure how many copies are available. Normally, I wouldn't post on here and would just keep this to myself. But, Ryan is a great magician and a super nice guy and I hope he sells them all. I'm looking forward to the next volume. Brandon |

I just wanted to pop in and say I performed Air Transpo on a layman tonight and his reaction was priceless.
The second the magical moment came, his eyes got huge and he immediately jumped back and gasped loudly. It is seriously the strongest feeling of magic you will ever give to your audience with a simple transpo. This goes to show Ryan's genius. It's simple, it's something everyone knows, but his tweaks took it from a decent effect to an earth-shattering, WTF effect. I think this is becoming my new favorite from the book. Madison |

They shuffle a deck, cut to any card, shuffle it back into the deck and you have complete control over the card. Ryan provides a simple routine to do it with, but it's the control that is special and once you learn that, you can incorporate it into just about any trick you want. I'm currently using this control for an impromptu way to do a routine from Ryan's DVD "Sleighty Sleighty." It's brilliant. Madison |
