It's summer, and I'm pretty new to coin work. I'm just now adding a couple coin routines into my strolling magic. This time of year, I'm performing in hot environments, and I get a little moist in the hands. Which, of course, makes palming quite an adventure, especially for someone like me. Does anyone know of any sticky-ish substances to put on the palms that will help keep the coins there when my hands are sweating, but won't let the coins actually stick to them? Of course I need the coins to fall when I want them to, and not stick to my palms when my hands are completely open. Any products or other solutions out there?

Thanks.

My routine is washing my hands with really hot water and soup and after that washing them with cold water until I feel cool, that way you're opening the porousness in your hands, cleaning them thoroughly and then the cold water closes them back and helps you sweat less.
I live in a very hot and humid country and I'd say there's no magical solution for not sweating from your hands on the really difficult days, if I'm not performing in an air conditioned environment, I'll probably only let myself perform at evening time when it's not as hot, save myself the hassle y'know?

My problem tends to be just the opposite - very dry hands.
Yet, my solution may still help. I roll some simple, non-drying, modeling clay in my hands. It leaves a little tack feel behind. It works great for dry hands, and if you don't sweat too much, it may also leave enough tack to compensate for moderate sweaty hands. Its cheap; give it a try

I thought my problem was dry hands for a long time and have tried almost every suggestion the good folks here on the Café have offered up. I find for working with cards, Chamberlain Golden Touch Lotion from a spray bottle works best. However, it hurts me when it comes to coins. My best find for "moist hands" or (sweaty hands) is to take a block of violin resin and grind it into a very fine powder in a small mortar and pestle similar to this one - https://www.target.com/p/porcelain-morta......rc=aw.ds
I store the powder in a quart size ziplock (once I found how well it worked for me, I actually ground up about 3-4 resin blocks so I am set for a year or two Smile I use a small measuring spoon 1/4 tsp. Looks like https://www.target.com/p/kitchenaid-174-......rc=aw.ds
and then I rub my hands together to spread it everywhere. Very seldom do I need more than 1/4 tsp (and it lasts a long time) sometimes I still have some "grip power" on the next morning even. Unless I really scrub my hands with Dawn Dish Soap.

I don't know where I found all these things but Target was the first site that popped up when I searched for examples. Smile

Another product that works in a pinch (just not as well) is a "liquid powder" by "Mission" https://www.ebay.com/i/263050292011?chn=ps&dispItem=1
I got mine on clearance a few years back at Lowes. This stuff is used by weight lifters and rock climbers. I simply apply a dime sized (or a little more) spot on my palm and rub them together. It turns my palms white but I take a diaper wipe or a damp cloth and lightly clean off the layer of "white powder" and I suddenly can classic palm about anything.

I also tried (with no real luck in my case) just using some rubbing alcohol on my palms, but it didn't dry me up nearly long enough. Your results could differ though.

Penguin sells a product that supposedly works http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/6795 I tried it on my last order but it isn't good for me. It is nice on the skin, the "tackiness" left behind is no more than you get from "Corn Huskers Lotion" at several time less of a cost. Corn Huskers Lotion is also a very good alternative for many magicians.

Although it doesn't help me when working with cards or coins, I do use O'Keeffe's "Working Hands" hand cream (a suggestion from Glenn Morphew on his One Handed Top Palm DVD) as a regular maintenance for my hands in general. My wife tried it once and now she uses it all the time too. It is a very good general / heavy duty skin care product. Walmart sells two sizes (both best price I found on it) I buy the bigger one for about $10 and it lasts me a couple months using just a dab every day.

Good post, my hands sweat too. Some tricks I cannot do at these hot outdoor events. If you aren't sure, seriously leave it out. Check out this video, it was so hot out-
