I have had many such gaffs in my career, going off script, forgetting lines, fillong time, a waiter droppijng a tray full of dishes and silverware during a sequence climax...and more.
And yes, there is no excuse for it, It is also important to pre-qulify audience embers as "volunteers. I have had times when I asked non-Einglish readers to read my Confabnultrion letter -- and a one language Chinese Speaker who could not get the instructions right for Death Trap =-- putting the knife in very unexpected positions. Somewhere between years of experience and rote automatic patter -- and disasterous unexpected idiocies there is a sweet p[lace of humor, understanding and safety. Often overflown, and thought of AFTER it is over.

I was checking if people in the back row was able to see it from there so they won't ask me to repeat if they miss it. Front row kid came back at me like: - No, we're all blind! I couldn't help but laugh (everybody laughed, except the child's mother, who was a little embarrassed). I didn't even explained my intentions with that question and simply went with the performance... I think the important thing is to never: 1) Be harsh at someone. 2) Look stupid, like if you had no idea what you're doing. 3) Lose control of audience. Even being funny, you have to be in charge at all times. 4) Never let things gets "too heavy", even with hecklers (even hecklers can book you). If I came back smarter at the kid I would be the jerk. I usually don't have questionable scripting moments. What I usually have is post-performance moments where I realize I could have said/done something better. Then I slap myself in the face. But yes, no matter how much you practice, nobody is immune.

I believe the line that should be banned from every mentalism show is... “And for the first time...”

"stand there for me..."
you mean like, on your behalf? why can't you stand there instead? just tell them "stand here please...", or "take these photos and mix them up"..you don't need to add "for me" at the end of every request...
I've asked to be banned

This might sound judgmental but I've never liked when a mentalist, asks a persons name. I mean shouldn't we know?
A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a foolish man can learn from a wise answer.
Attributing negativity to a topic or post doesn't make the topic or post negative, it shines a light on the negativity of the person or persons, making the attributions. BEWARE these Debbie downers and anything they say. They simply lack the self esteem or good will, to be positive or productive. Your belief in self, is more important and is all that matters, for your success to be glorious. |

You can, for instance, add a certain process as Bob Cassidy suggests. That process can be used as a barrier or limitation that can shield you from such situations.
