Hi everyone.....I just noticed the latest effect by Wayne Dobson and it looks like something I'd invest in. Does anyone know how the angles are though? Can it be performed with people on the sides of you, or possibly a little bit behind you?
I assume not, but I wanted to see if I could get that answered before I purchase it. Here is the effect with demo: http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/eyepad-gim......145.html A stunning, unique "Think of a Card" Trick A huge hit at Magic Live 2017 * The spectator thinks of any card (NO FORCE) * You introduce your (spoof) EyePad * What follows is 5 minutes of solid entertainment and a comedy of errors as various pages of the EyePad are turned * Just when the spectator thinks you've messed up, BOOM! * The one single card that is in full view on the last page is shown to be the spectator's thought-of card! Unique Points to Remember * The spectator is never asked to reveal the card until the very end! * Very easy to perform * It comes with a very high quality printed "EyePad" * Ideal for cabaret, theater, and TV * Great for magicians, comperes, and children's entertainers * A great opener, middle or closer! Who has EyePad! * David Copperfield * Kevin James * Chris Funk * Will Tsai * and more! Be prepared to see looks of absolute shock on the audience's faces! This product comes with downloadable video explanation and PDF file. http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/-p-25145.html |

To me, this looks like a spiral bound version of Angelo Carbone's Cue The Magic, with a couple of different sight gags. Could be wrong, but that is what it reminded me of.
If it works anything similar, then it is in fact difficult to have anyone behind you. Is somewhat possible to manage angles from the side. |

This looks like its a combination of Wayne's REVELATION with Angelo's CUE THE MAGIC method.

Seems like a combination of "cue the magic" and "revelation"
I used to use the revelation packet trick frequently. |

When I saw the video last night.... I thought it was just a version of 'cue the magic'
I think it says something like a new original idea from WD which was why I was a bit taken aback that it both manages to copy 'cue the magic' and take out the most interesting part of having an audience member to the actual magic |

In some ways, this elevates it because they see the card BEFORE they name it. The card is seen on the board before they ever name their card. (This is the genius of "revelation")

Spend a few more years performing and then you'll know the answer to your own question.

Wow, cannot even justify a reasonable response.
Just my opinion, which I am entitled to. I've spent a lot more on single effects. Just don't see the value regardless of the "you're buying the routine" argument. |

I think our answers were alluding to the ENTERTAINMENT value. Often that value alone, "in the eyes of the performer" of course can justify the price. Also, poor Wayne had to manufacture probably 100 of these. There is some cost in that alone. And last the fact that you stated your opinion shouldn't preclude us from stating ours. Don't get upset. Come back with a witty, meaningful quip or something with debate potential. For example, let me ask this... WHY don't you believe this item is worth $100? Is it the props hold no value? The routine is of no value? |

Hard to evaluate that - as we don't know the routine [patter/gags] until after we buy it >> You can watch the vid and see the images that appear on the pad. You should be able to make this fun and funny regardless of the provided script and jokes. I sort of doubt the gags are top notch [even though WD is very funny] - as it is sold as being good for children's shows >> Again, look at the images on the pad. You must be able to think of a humorus routine for kids. 15 diamonds? That's funny. I don't mean jokes have to be rude - but sometimes clean material that works for adults is very different than that which is aimed at kids >> Make your own jokes |

Not sure why you mention the routine you are buying [as a question as to what is or is not worth $100] - and when someone answers that - then say 'make your own' ???? No. You were directly asking about whether the chap thought the routine wasn't worth the $100 You don't then get to try and turn that around... In terms of what I do - I only do stuff if I can find something new [in presentation and patter/gags]... but that is nothing to do with what you asked and my answer I was on your side - but your lack of comprehension skills amd attitude means I might have to migrate to 'Mr it's not worth $100' - in fact I might start my own faction in this debate, as you deserve each other x |

I also did Wayne's packet trick version & still have it & reserect it from time to time in my "working set" as it's a very entertaining revelation of a thought of card & they get your business card at the end.
Yes, this new( larger version) isn't cheap BUT it is an excellent, entertaining revelation of a thought of card that has been expanded into something that will play really big for Cabaret / Parlour & large tables when hired to work a special event with just one large table or 3 smaller ones. I know for a fact that if Wayne was still on television & he had been seen performing this, it would sell like hot cakes & they would not be able to keep up with the production demand needed for eager customers. At some point I WILL get this. Another winner from Mr Dobson & his team. Mike Donoghue |
