Looks dumb, but it's a Solari effect and he doesn't put out poor material.

I own Thought Transmitter...but...it is totally unlike me to pull out a post-it-note wallet. In fact, I can't ever remember anyone, even in an office or business setting, having such a thing on their person. So, Thought Transmitter will remain at the bottom of my drawer. Yet, I always have a stack of my business cards with me. So do many other people that I know. I could definately get away with this one, and in almost any situation. In fact, Thought Transmitter is limited in that you cannot do it in subdued lighting. With Business Minded, low tech is an advantage. Do it in any lighting. All you need is your business cards and 3 or 4 minutes of prep. Once the one-time prep is made, your set to do it over and over again. And, a good presentation could make all the difference.

Good thoughts, Nicholas!!!
Could the 3-4 minute prep be cut down any?

MagicChris,
I'll revise my initial estimate to 2-3 minutes. And, it's a one-time prep. (You get a downloadable manuscript and supply your own calling cards.) For your one-time prep, you won't even have to go to the store to get anything. I'm almost 100% certain that you have what you need right in your own home. Reset is a couple of seconds and you're ready to perform again. When I think of what I paid for Thought Transmitter (and I really do like the mechanics behind it), I wish I had known about Business Minded. Again, I'm not downing TT, but I just find more usable potential behind BM. I am looking forward to trying it out in a real life situation. Nicholas Nicholas |

Business Minded is a simple, effective, straight forward and on the fly trick. All that one needs is a small pack of business cards.

As with all of the Bob Solari effects this is a great effect. Simple and so easy to make, and as stated earlier once the initial set up is complete you are done. This is a 2-3 minute one time set up and no special material is required except you business cards.
For the price get it.

Forgive me, but am I the only one who thinks that unless there's a really clever handling wrinkle, this is rather obvious?

No, your not the only one Neil, it is obvious to me how it can be accomplished. Before anyone pays for it, think of how it can be done and you are most likely right.

Personally I think a good peek wallet would be a better alternative.Mind Contoller and Mind Spy wallet are really great and have made me more repeat booking than you can imagine.
I've found that the effect is strongest when performed with an impromptu feel. Borrow a pen, use your business card because you need something to write on, and use your wallet to keep it safe. Just my thoughts... |

I think by looking at it, it (may be) like my mind reading card trick, in the secret sessions forum. I'm NOT saying for sure, in that way I'm NOT disclosing anything.

Maybe obvious to a magician but not to a layperson which is the reason most of us perform. Also when you are through with the effect they have your card with your prediction on it. Instantly resets, easy to carry in your pocket and simple. The good thing is it is inexpensive and you have something you can do at a moments notice. You will not go wrong with this effect for the 6.95 download. Again I have 6 of Solari's effects and for prices you get great effects that you will perform. Neil on a daily basis I don't always carry your effect in my pocket. It is not an item most people carry with them everyday, but I do carry my business cards. If you purchase something and use it then it was well worth the cost.

Mr. Solari is a great guy, and perhaps he has come up with an ingenious handling that covers your tracks in this case, but without such a handling I'm afraid it would be transparent to my paying audiences. I'm not debating the value you get for your money, nor the value of being able to do effects that leave your business card in the hands of your client (heaven knows I do plenty of them). As for the practicality of my own product, I carry it with me everyday, as it fits in my briefcase perfectly, but it may not play as an "impromptu" item for all people. However, that's not the point of this posting. Quote:

This looks painfully obvious to me. I would expect it to be pretty easy to catch too. That said, if I were doing it I would have the crystal ball pre-printed on the back. Looks nicer and speeds up the trick a little (don't want to spend too much time giving out a card in some instances). Maybe a clear card case instead of a rubber band would polish it up a bit too.

Just as I feared: it's a case-less version of the classic Jaks Card Case, but without the subtleties of its predecessor.
On the upside, I have a few subtleties which I think will improve its deceptiveness substantially. I've contacted Bob Solari, and I'll let you know if they are incorporated. But even with the addition of my tweaks, I think this idea would have been better saved for Dushek's book than marketed on its own. Best, Neil

Neil,
I agree that sometimes we don't give our audience enough credit for being logical-thinking persons. Disregarding the inelegant and unusual method of having your business cards wrapped in an rubber-band (instead of in a business card case), the hangup that I'm having with the methodology used is two-fold: 1. The unnatural illogical "requirement" of taking the person's card back and replacing it back into your stack of business cards and then putting the stack back in your pocket (From a PRESENTATIONAL standpoint, why can't the spectator's card just be left on the table?), and, 2. The ultimate retrieval of the person's card back from your pocket both to get it out of your stack (for instant reset) and to do a side-by-side comparison at the dénouement. (If you don't ultimately reveal and compare the two cards, what's the justification for requiring the spectator to write his "thought" down in the first place if you are "just going to take his word for it"?) And yes, I am aware that it can be argued that the spectator's card need only be revealed in cases where he lies or has a lapse of memory. I'll have to do more thinking about this effect. In principle, I'm intrigued with the method; I'm just having trouble envisioning it being used seamlessly in a natural manner that doesn't either suggest the method or appear illogical in presentation. While I can think of cleaner handlings for this METHOD, what I just can't reconcile is why, from a PRESENTATIONAL standpoint, the spectator's card must be put back into the stack of cards in the first place.
