We can make mentalism look as real as we wish. That's the appeal to me. No matter how well you present a ring flight the spectator never truly believes the ring vanishes in one spot and appears in another. I remember when I stared messing around with my first mentalism effects years ago, the people who knew I was a magician actually thought they got those 5 Little Zener cards to match up perfectly. I was speechless. I actually had one person get angry with me when I told them it was a trick. They "proved" to themselves what they suspected all along, that they have some kind of intuitive ability, and it made them and me feel wonderful. DO I feel guilt working that strong. Nope. People are going to believe what they want to believe and no matter what we do they will always find evidence to back prove their own belief systems.
