For me, some are:
that "pocket mentalism" has been around for much longer than some think - check some of the Nelson books for example, lots of contributions from people about creating such things so that they are always ready to perform when people ask...this is from the 30s onwards... that The Jinx is also full of card tricks, silks and other such fancies... that when I look at some of my friends who are a success and are happy with their lot in mentalism, they just do their thing and get on with it - yet on here, so many/too many people are so concerned about other's opinions,.. that we seek approval and validation from others online, and want our opinion to matter and count...and we forget what is truly worthwhile...or we haven't discovered that 'bit' yet... so many much older books and pamphlets contain the same things, mentalists complaining about exposure, bad magicians not getting it, tricks being re-invented with no crediting or permission sought... that we wonder that, when we take the good solid advice of buying the older books - and we read them avidly, we find out that there's a lot of "magician thinking" in them, and there's a trick with ESP shapes drawn on plastic tumblers, a thought of colour silk appearing, and then a presentation for the living and dead test...all one after the other..."ah, but it was different back then!" they say, and its true...but how do you prepare someone to understand that? that we have magicians to thank for their exposure shows...doing gambling/cardsharping exposure shows for the military, at casinos, on tour, and warping their methods to fit in with magic...and how magicians exposed mediumship and spiritualism, then realised there was money to be made making them more theatrically driven... just a few things that tickle me... what are yours?

That people still believe in ESP, spiritualism, "real" psychics, horoscopes, and other such nonsense.

To tickle me in mentalism would require a jovial, look at the mind. Something rarely seen in penny. That's what tickles me most here, anyway. To be more specific, the seriousness of mentalist, I find hilarious. Question asked and answered.
A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a foolish man can learn from a wise answer.
Attributing negativity to a topic or post doesn't make the topic or post negative, it shines a light on the negativity of the person or persons, making the attributions. BEWARE these Debbie downers and anything they say. They simply lack the self esteem or good will, to be positive or productive. Your belief in self, is more important and is all that matters, for your success to be glorious. |

What tickles me is that magicians pick up a mentalism effect one afternoon and present it in their show that evening, interspersed with self-working box magic, card tricks and the like, presented in the form of giant puzzles. And of course, the self-satisfied smirk at the end of each trick.
But then again, I was surprised (surprised, to keep it in context of this thread) at the success of Uri Geller. Looking back, I think he was--and is--a brilliant showman. P.S. Graymatter, What a fantastic quote. And so true -- where would Facebook be without it? |

That so many mentalists and magicians have no appreciation for the paranormal or even the mysterious and dismiss the possibility that psi phenomena is real. Seems to me it must make it awfully hard to act as if it's real if you don't even entertain the possibility.

Also what I find amusing, many claim that a magician is an actor playing the part of a wizard, but they cannot act, and don't take acting classes to improve. I also find in amusing that magicians and mentalists are the "experts" on everything, especially paranormal, religion, psychology, science, crime, the law, and deception because they know a few tricks. |

One thing we don't need lessens in that's lying.
Either you got it or don't.I think your born with that. When I was in my twentys I took a bet and convinced a girl after several days that I was from another planet. And it took some time after to convince I was lying. |

That every mentalist seems to have the worst handwriting... except for their signature.
P.S. @ B.W. McCarron - Not in a place the shareholders would like. That's for sure.

Thinking of this one not only just tickles but often has me in splits.
That after so many decades and decades of mentalism and mentalists - we still do not have a universally accepted definition of mentalism. There seem to be as many definitions of mentalism as there are mentalists AND magicians.
There is no better freedom than choice and no better choice than freedom.
