I am looking to buy a table and have narrowed my choices to two. I need someone with knowledge of either to help me decide which one to buy. The first is the Joe Lefler suitcase table (large).
http://www.magicmgmt.com/magicshop/suitcasetable.html The second is the Viking Pro table. http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=3171 Can somebody please help and make up my mind for me! Take care, Bry |

In order to that we need a list of you magic tricks you intend to perform. These are suitcase tables and unless we know what props you are using we cannot get an idea if they will fit your act.
Both are pretty much the same. |

Do you have a budget? One is considerably more expensive than the other.

If you can, get the viking pro table. However, they are made to order, so it will take a while.

I personally prefer the Joe Lefler suitcase table, I have one and it has worked very well for me.

Both are excellent tables of the kind. You will not go wrong with either one.
I think that you have to ask yourself if either really fits your needs in terms of working surface (or if you even need a working surface) and storage area. More important than simple volume storage is the space to properly arrange your props to fit your show. See any one of Dan Harlan’s “Packs Small Plays Big” tapes to see what I mean about fitting an act in a case. Are you simply buying a generic table that you hope to fit your act into? Or do you have an act and know what the props are (size, weight, etc) and how they will be ordered in the case? Knowing your act (acts?) sure makes it easier in selecting a case. Sometimes it is easier (and cheaper) to simply buy a nice piece of roll-on luggage that your act fits into and buy a nice elegant (and inexpensive) table that will pack flat into the case with the props. Honestly, I have played with both of the table cases you are interested and find them heavy even unloaded. I wouldn’t buy either when I had the chance just for that reason. Hey I already have an Arturo “Case N Table” from Abbotts (1970’s vintage and without the hokey top hat logo painted on it) and I don’t use it because it is heavy! It sits in the corner of my studio and gets used as a practice surface. Anyway, as an alternative, lighter, more flexible to use, table/case look at Jeff Hobson’s “Dream Table”. It has a couple of features that neither of the ones you are interested have (adjustable height), a prop well, etc. AND it is way lighter!!! Of course it is about $200 more expensive too! You can see it at: http://www.encoremagic.com/dream_table.html It’s just another idea for you to ponder. In truth it will be your unique need and use that will determine which table is the best for you. Yes, I know, I know, this post has just muddied the water for you! Sorry...

I can only vouch for the Lefler table as that is the one I have. I love it and have never had any problems with it at all. I folds down and is nice to travel with. I would certainly invest again in that table if I needed another one.

I have has the Lefler type Table pre cloth covering, mine had famica. Boy was it heavy. It was great for shows as everything fit into it.
I use the Merv Taylor suitcase table and the Taylor/Owens table. I cannot work without them. One case in and one case out. Just checked for you and the Owen table is not on their web site, but it would be even more expensive. http://www.owenmagic.com email them for a quote if you want to comfuse the matter even more. I will tell you that they do not put wheels on the legs as the original, but use ball bearing coasters instead. So it will not roll on concrete as the original does. |

I love the fact that my lefler table has nice wheels on it and it will roll on most anything. It has plenty of room in it and the fabric is such that you can place a nice velcro sign on the front during performance.
