Really shocking. Expected to see him around for many more years.

I just read that he is not dead.
Massive heart attack, yes Found unconscous, yes Taken off life support, yes but not yet passed on.

My buddies and I used to argue who was better: Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen. They were both huge influences. If (like me) you grew up seeking answers from Rock n Roll, you'll know what I mean.
Take care, my friend. . .

Reports from various “fake news” outlets claim he’s already dead. But Cliff is correct: it has not been confirmed yet. Anyway, it seems inevitable. Liked the sound of his band a lot, and he had some good songs.

And now he is....
If you believe in forever Then life is just a one night stand If there's a rock and roll heaven Well you know they've got a hell of a band.... Rest in Peace Tom Petty Thanks for all the years of great music.

What an amazing performer. afinemesh' comparison to Springsteen was apropos. He did, what was it, 40 straight nights at the Fillmore in SF (I saw 2 of them). He featured rock legends from the past (I saw Carl Perkins and Bo Diddley this way). His shows, like Springsteen, went on for hours; and you walked out as if your soul was saved. Lynn

A correction with a good story: Tom Petty played 20 (not 40) straight nights in 1997 and 7 straight nights in 1999 at the SF Fillmore, capacity just over 1,000 for each show. Rather than play an arena size crowd, he wanted to give the audience a close-up show, where people felt as if they were in a club, where they could dance and schmooze. Of course, every show was sold out; but for 20 straight nights it was fairly easy to score one of them. He really cared about his audience, and 'proved it all night'... for 20 straight nights. Lynn
