I just saw the most amazing phone effect in the world.
I saw it in the movie "The Mothman Prophecies". Richard Gere gets a call on his motel phone from an entity and gets a display of some powerful psychic ability. This creepy sounding voice seems to know everything about him and can see what he's doing. Providing very direct answers to questions. "Okay, where's my watch?" Gere asks his midnight caller. "In your shoe," replies the Mothman, "under the bed." He knows there is Chapstick in Gere's hand. He knows the line that Gere is looking at in a book! It's preety funny in the movie but think about doing it in real life... Yaniv Deautsch |

The mothman prophecies scene was fascinating to me when I saw the movie. The entity even does a booktest!
Richard Gere says "You are reading my mind" to which the entity responds: "That is not necessary". And of course the entity demonstrates by telling Richard a line from a book that Richard could not have known. (so no mind reading) The movie shows how the notion of not being safe even inside your own mind is very frightening. This is a concept that I have played with and to see it exploited in a movie was very nice. I am glad another mentalist noticed it. I think it is perfectly suitable for the real world. Of course one would have to get the right mood and presentation and find a method to pull it off. Which in my opinion are just details to the determined performer. -Alain Bellon |

Just a pity that overall the movie was pretty poor! I've seen better X-Files episodes.

What do you mean not suitable for real world?
Dunninger used to do a similer routine in real life. And a fellow by the name Vincent T.Turvey could tell people {in 1905} over the phone what their daughters are doing in an upstairs room or what another person in the room is reading. Yaniv Deautsch |

One of the best "phone" tricks is in the book Kort.

You have a card selected, someone gives you any phone number (no plant) and you call them, explain that you are doing an experiment and ask them to name the first card that comes to mind, and it is THE selected card. Simple and direct, the way it should be.

What Paul forgot to mention is that the effect can then be repeated.
It's in the book "KORT" published by Heremetic Press (Stephen Minch). |

There is an effect that simulates the Kort effect in one of AOA books and it is from Gregory Wilson... it's called 411
