The Micro 5 is about 3" x 2". Go on to the Chazpro site and click PK effects. I bought it by mail order and it seemed to get through the system without any hitches.

I love the idea of moving the mouse! Great one, Rob!

However, doesn't the magnet damage the electonic components? Only if you get it too close to the monitor. Everything else is pretty well shielded. I use a magnet to make an old mouse ball roll uphill sometimes.

They have lots of powerful nedfeb magnets (strong) and seem to be WAY cheaper then chazpro. I have never had any bother ordering from them (lots of times). |

I have a good story using my PK setup.
It wasn't a "planned" performance, but I found myself seated next to a 12-year-old girl during a flight home one time. I had my trusty PK in my briefcase, along with some PK pennies. Without saying a word, I busied myself going through my briefcase (while placing the magnet on my knee under the tray table.) The bagel the airline served came on a nice little plastic tray, about the size of a change tray. I went through my "stuff" and tossed some odd change into the tray, along with---you guessed it---the "special" coin. It became a game of "cat and mouse" with me and the money in the tray. Every time I would look away, the coins moved. Of course, every time I watched for it, nothing would happen. Within a few seconds, I had the girl's eyes riveted on the change tray. I never let on that anything was "happening" and we never spoke to each other. We didn't have to, but the connection was there. It was great fun watching her reaction to the moving money for the remainder of the flight. When the attendant finally came to clear our trays, we made brief eye contact. I looked at the money, smiled at her and shrugged as I put it away. It was the most entertaining flight I ever had, and I'm guessing it was her's too. David

The button will take a bit of work. If the mouse is cordless and infrared, you can teach the click signal to a smart TV remote. If not, a switch would have to be wired in at the PS/2 port. USB Mice would be an even bigger challenge.
Disclaimer: This is only an idea right now. (I have not actually performed or built this effect. I only had the idea a few days ago after reading this thread.) I am working on building one and will share specs, plans and schematics when done. I do use mouse balls for roll-around effects but have not tried it with the ball in the mouse.

MageofMeadows:
I had a similar experience the other night at the local refreshment center. I built a gimmicked card case (its a bicycle case with a small nedfeb on the front with a card back on top [extremely examinable]). Normally I use it to do a lethal tender type effect. Sitting at the table twisting my aces with the case at my side and neodimium on my knee, I noticed/felt that I was being watched (psychic that I am), so I moved the card box (from below with my knee) and carried on twisting (supposedly oblivious). Every time that the box moved away from me I casually placed it back in place. I could hear the whispers and nudging going on behind me. |

Friends:
I just LOVE my late friend Werry`s "Paranormal". It´s now sold in nearly every magic shop for a lot of money. I do not go into great details here. The effect is that a little cardboard square is folded tent fashion, and this I put on the point of a toothpick, which was stuck in a matchbox. I make some mysterious movements around the caboodle without touching it, and the paper square starts to rotate. People think, I am blowing on it, but if that happens, I put a glass upside down over the "apparatus". Again I do the moves and the paper rotates once more. I can stop it whirling on a command of a spectator, then it starts to turn the other way round..... Glass, Paper, Matchbox and Toothpick can be immediately inspected by the audience. There is nothing for them to find. The trick needs a little bit of practice, but the performance looks really as "Paranormal"! If you want to know more about it, let me know. Or consult my webpage! I have to agree that Ted Lesley's Paranormal is great. It leaves 'em scratching their heads, and I think that using such simple items used in this fashion makes it one they remember you by forever.
Here is a tip if you use magnets where you want them to go through tables or just plain "have more power". Tip 1. Stack magnets together and they produce more power. Tip 2. Glue a steel plate (can be thin) to the backside of the magnet and it pushes the power back to the other direction, thus giving you more magnetic power on the opposite side. Tip 3. Combine tip 1 and 2, and you get a "super" magnet. |

Do you have any tips to prevent "accidents" with magnets (card erased, stuck on objects...) ? How to handle, transport, stock ...

Does anyone know if there's a book about magic effects with magnets or if there's a video of it?

Friends, I want to point out that the effect "Paranormal" isn`t my own creation. The trick was invented by my old friend, the late WERRY. Shortly before he died he sold me the rights to manufacture and sell his idea!
Any questions? Feel free to ask! TED LESLEY

Well since you asked (Btw, should we call you Ted or Mr. Lesley?), I have a great amount of respect for your art and contribution to the field and would not wish to offend by calling you by your first name only.
On the topic of "Paranormal". I was thinking about adapting it to a "book of matches" in addition to the existing explanation. Glue the square into the inside cover of the book of matches. Pick it up then tear the front cover off. Then fold as per instructions placing it on the toothpick stuck into the back of the torn matchbook. Then follow the rest of the directions. I left my Paranormal set at the office over the weekend and haven't been able to try it out yet. But I was wondering what you thought of this. Have you experimented with other ways of introducing the square for this effect? |
