A few months back I saw a Tweet by Michael Vincent where he was promoting the latest reprint of Darwin Ortiz's book "Cardshark" (which had been out of print for many years). This got me very excited since I know the reputation this book has; so I went ahead and bought an autographed copy by The Man himself -- Darwin Ortiz.

So far the book has revived my passion for magic. Darwin's style for writing is quite good; he knows how to explain the method for a card trick in a very specific manner. You never feel that you lost the thread of what you're reading because he's always guiding you as if he was right there with you. His effects are described just as if you were reading a book by Harry Lorayne, which I think comes as a compliment for any professional magician that has ever written his/her works.

Honestly, I won't use all the tricks that I've read in this book, since I am firm believer that you should only use the tricks that suit your style, and take the best of the tricks that don't fit your style and adapt them into ideas that you've been working on (i.e. an original idea for a trick where you feel that your method is not the best, or that it can be improved but you don't know how). I might try them on an audience just to test them, and if they kill, then I'll try to shape them so they can fit my style and presentation.

And yes, the book is for the advanced magician -- a label that I have not earned, yet, but I have decided to work for it --, so if you're thinking about buying this book and you're not at that level yet, that's OK, as long as you know that you'll get there one day and you're serious about magic, then you should buy a copy of this book. Reading this book may serve you as a way of testing your passion for magic and your skills as well -- trust me, you will test your skills with this one.

Is this book on your bucket-list? What did you think of this book? What was your favorite part? Who would you recommend this book to?
Regards,

Oscar

I was able to obtain this by directly contacting Darwin during pre-sales, probably still your best bet: darwinortiz@aol.com

FYI - Mr. Ortiz says that ALL of his books are in print, with the exception of At the Card Table, and available through him.
