Hi everyone,

Remember Café member entity? He doesn't post much round here anymore, but I still stay in touch with him. He is putting out an ebook on Annemann's Test of the Tiber and I thought you may be interested in knowing more about it.

The Test of the Tiber is a very clever stand-up divination created by the late, great, Theo Annemann. Originally, it was a very clean book test that Annemann used to divine a name from a page in a phone book. The spectator, alone on stage, would open the book, and then look at any name on the page. While standing in the audience, the performer would reveal information about the other names on the page; producing a string of hits; and then finally the thought of name would be revealed. The clarity and psychology make for a very strong effect with stringent conditions.

This effect, along with Annemann’s method, were concepts that very much interested the late David Alexander, who, before his passing in 2010, complied all of the published information on it. Mr. Alexander also compiled his own thoughts and ideas on how to perform this. Additionally, through his research, David discovered a squeaky clean billet switch that Annemann tipped to Al Baker which remained unpublished. This switch was not included in the original - Annemann wanted to keep this for himself. This work would have been lost into history until David’s widow, Cassidy, gave David’s notes on the routine to his good friend Thomas Baxter, performer and author of several fine books on mentalism.

Tom is releasing the work in a 22-page ebook entitled The Test of the Tiber – Revisited. Included: everything published on the effect from Annemann onward, David Alexander’s thoughts & tips, the Baker billet switch, and the handling that Tom uses in his shows. Colour photos.

I got this today. It's nice to see the effect and it's subtleties completely explained and there is some good work on it.

I think it's worth mentioning that the Baker switch in question is the TT one. However, it's not the same as described in the Jinx and PME. It's very similar, but different in a crucial way that makes it much more natural and deceptive.

Sadly, phone books are less and less common these days and days of the effect as originally performed are numbered. Yes the method is applicable to other types of books, but not in the polished, complete form as presented here.

Nonetheless, nice to see David Alexander's work published and appreciated.
