Sometimes my blown egg gets stuck and I have to work it out with my fingers. Anyone else have this problem? Should I WD40 my sticky egg? Wax? I'm using a standard cloth, Malini style bag. Or maybe the bag has static, making the egg cling, now that it is winter here in Ohio. Sometimes it takes some work to get that egg free! Ha ha.

Seems you are using an egg that may be to large. Try a smaller eggs. Eggs come in Medium, large, X-Large, and Jumbo.
Also, if you just throw your bag, in a box or case, and don't take care of it, it will develop wrinkles, just like clothing. I suggest you very lightly steam or steam iron the bag, be very careful, if you don't know how to iron find someone who knows about fabric and ironing. Then get a sheet of thick white cardboard. Turn the back inside out, then measure the bag. Cut the cardboard to the exact size of the, turned inside out, bag. Insert the cardboard into the bag. Now insert the bag into a heavy weight freezer bag. and press all the air out, and seal the Zip-LOck. Now when you use the bag, it will naturally look good and bellow out open, making inserting the hand and spectator's hand very easily. The egg will also move very easily. Care for your props and they will perform well for you. |

Charlie Miller usta go to the farmers' produce markets, looking for pullet eggs, for his Malini/Miller bag(s). He said, "The smaller the egg, the thicker the shell!
When he found a supply he would buy as many as he could. He would blow the eggs, and, prepare as many as he could.

Thank you, Bill. Thank you, Dick. The size of the egg didn't even cross my mind. I suppose some eggs might be more streamlined than others, as well. The egg I was using was a bit chubby and round.
Now, I must dedicate myself to finding the perfect egg for my bag! I'll try your ideas for caring for the bag, too, Bill. But my bag doesn't wrinkle much--the material is too thick to wrinkle! I hope to sew a custom bag for myself at some point. Thank you both. I appreciate your wisdom. |
