I am president of a local IBM Ring, and last year I produced membership cards for our club. I believe this is the first time the club has ever had its own membership cards.
I built some "effects/tricks" into the cards--two or three reveals, including a playing card on the reverse, as well as a number effect (where the "membership" numbers force a particular predicted number). I thought I would ask for some ideas for effects that could easily/readily be included on the next batch of membership cards. Any ideas would be appreciated! (Please PM if you do have ideas!) Thanks! |

How about a booktest?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You could make up a batch of cards with say 7 digit membership numbers (all different of course) BUT the middle 3 digits are all the same number.
Use the FORCE Luke.
Choose any number for the first membership card. Then have the second number be 9 more than that, the 3rd 9 more than the second membership numbers, etc. When you cast out nines, all of the membership numbers will be the same. The magician can then force the card with that value on a spectator, while his membership card is on the table. What will the suit be? The clubs, since the mag is pointing out his magic club! It can only be done once for a given group, but it gives an opportunity to talk up the local club.
FYI: Casting out 9s involves adding up the digits of a number. If the result is not a single digit, then add up the digits of the new number, continuing until a single digit is obtained. It is easy to prove that this is the same as dividing by 9 and getting the remainder. |
