In stand up comedy there's the concept of a "call back" or whatever it's called. You do a bit and give the punchline and then several jokes later (sometimes at the end of your routine) you refer back to the original in a clever way and when it works it works very well. I think the principle could be used effectively in mentalism.

Subplots are, in a way, nested stories. The author makes some interesting comments on the pro and cons of the concept.
I believe that her pros covers some of the best reason to use it in a longer routine.
