Hi All,
I have been fooling with the bandana/banana routine and I picked up a Hank (bazar de magica), but I am not sure it does the trick (pun intended). I feel it "sags" a little, and gives it away - as it were. Can anyone recomend a good hank that can hold a banana? |

It depends on the size of the banana!
About 50 years ago, my friend, the late Jack Chanin, sold me a "NO SAG" devil's hank. I had never used one, but, Jack's advice, paid off. I used it for years. When it finally went to devil's hank heaven, I had several made. Later, I made them and sold them at my lectures. I sold MANY! (I produced a snifter glass of brandy (for adults, and a small goldfish bowl for kids). Many dealers sell a decorated cloth with sequins and gold fringe, etc. NO! You need a rather plain, "napkin" or large pocket "handkerchief" For the banana bit, I would get one that's WASHABLE.

Thanks Dick,
Do you have any specific ones or a site I can order from? I have this one : http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S5488 but the Banana is CLEARLY visible. |

Your problem is not the hank, but the size and weight. The larger the item, the larger the hank has to be.
The problem you face, is that they no longer make the a 30" Devil's Hank. You will have to make on yourself. Just look for nice ladies head scarves, with a busy print pattern, buy 3 and learn to sew with a sewing machine, or contact a seamstress. Here is one, but I think a 20" scarf would be to small depending on the banana. Another idea, would be to use a sponge banana. It would be light weight. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S21545 |

Bill, there IS a 30" devil's hank being made by Wack-O-Magic, and advertises the "no sag" feature in 6 solids/pattern designs, although I have no personal experience with it. And you're right, Dick, the one included in my original Vanishing Bandana was the most hideous green/black/glitter, etc.
You'll find the hank I refer to here: http://www.wack-o-magic.com/devilshank.html By the way, the man behind the site is a member here: makeupguy A discussion for/against here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=17 Hope that helps. |

Yeeeesh, that is a little high (I'm in canada, so the exchange rate and shipping is a killer). But you may be on to something if I have it made. Is there a "pattern" I can use? or just give my current Hank to a seamstress and a pile of fabric and have her make it?

I still make the Banana Bandana and it is a lined pocket with no sag feature. There is no pattern to use.

Bon jour! Montreal! Ma gran mere etait Francais Canadien, mais je parle seulememt un peu...
I understand the postage (douane!) and, the exchange rate, are an important consideration! I think that between "us", we've given you some good information. Bill pointed out that the size of the DH is critical. I haven't had time to checkout the "wacko" DH, the information for which, stempleton has kindly provided Richard Hughes makes good props. I would check with him, regarding size of the cloth. I'm sure that Richard won't steer you wrong.
