I upgraded to the new version at Blackpool. These are absolutely awesome. The dice now look absolutely perfect. Now that the quality of the dice has been massively upgraded and they are rechargeable these are a no brainer.

Hello everybody,
I did as a fact upgrade to the rechargeable dice (have not arrived yet) just for the convenience as exchanging the batteries was a bit time consuming and you had to be careful and the batteries were of a type not readily available at all shops selling hearing aid batteries. But I am surprised I seem to be the only one who has not been concerned about the look of the first type of dice even though exchanging the batteries about 10 times did result in the small marks widely discussed on this site a year ago. None of my specs ever suspected the dice as they were so small, except for being prepared to always give the same result, which you could show was not the case by letting them throw 3 times before turning around. What I am a bit concerned about is the tendency prevailing in all of to-days products: what you buy to-day will to-morrow no more be available. AP is no longer being sold - see above - how long will the watch be available ? Gidy who handled my upgrade very well and quickly assured me for those who happen to tread on their watch or lose the AP there will be spares available. But my experience is: what is no more being sold is no more being produced and any initial remaining stock will after a while be gone. DJI, the world leader in Drones and drone electronics refuses to repair and has no spares for items that were still marketed 2 years ago. None of the cassette and CD prediction players you bought a while ago are still available. Suppliers like Cesar and Craig are proven exceptions to this rule. Let us hope e-Stooge will assure its reputation by taking availability of spare seriously. Kaarlo von Freymann Helsinki Finland

I was never concerned about the look of the old dice, for me the upgrade was more about not having to replace the batteries especially as the new cloud features meant the batteries needed replacing more often, The fact that the new dice look absolutely perfect is a huge added bonus. As far as availability of parts is concerned I think the APX has made the AP redundant. The APX works with all of the dice and has more features and so there is no point in selling the old AP. If the watch becomes available it may be because it is no longer required. Hopefully at some point they will add Apple Watch supportalthough if they do I will still use the mind watch on stage because I prefer the security of a dedicated receiver just as I do with the mindbuster. With my mindbuster I can use the iPhone and Apple Watch for casual settings and switch to the dedicated receiver for stage.
The app is fantastic but it is very difficult to justify looking at your phone during an actual performance, because of that in a casual setting I will use all three for the which hand feature but I will only use a single dice if I want the numbers. I never leave the house without the APX and dice but I don’t carry the watch unless it’s an actual gig. If/when they add Apple Watch support to get the numbers these dice will be perfect. When it comes to electronics in Mentalism all of the companies are essentially one man bands, sure they might have people working with them but Craig, Cesar, Chris Taylor, Soren, Hugo etc are it. If anything happens to those guys or when they eventually retire the well could very well run dry. We are also at the mercy of how quickly the technology becomes mainstream. Bone conductors for example are rapidly becoming mainstream with bone conducting headphones becoming more common. Mark |

For me it has always been a pleasure to read Sir Kaarlo von Freymann's and Mark_Chandaue's posts. They are one of our most experienced and knowledgeable veterans. Their posts speak volumes regarding their deep concern for the growth of our art.

I would have thought Cesaral would have something similar or in the works. To be clear, I certainly don't mean that statement in any negative way, just the opposite in fact. I take it as a very good thing because Rudy knows his way around electronics in magic so to impress him would seem to say a lot about this product. |

I'm still practicing with the Mysticubes and so far everything is great! If I had one wish it would be that the charging was wireless however this isn't really a bid deal. With all the dice effects in the Magic Market (IMHO) this is definitely the very best! So many options/effects available with the 3 die set and at a very reasonable price! Thank you E-Stooge!

Just to defend the Mind Watch which incidentally is a genuine watch modified to work with the dice rather than a magic prop watch. More importantly the watch comes with a silicon case so that it can be very easily finger palmed and never seen by the spectators. This format is how I use it and allows for the most natural and justified peek possible. Even when full Apple Watch support has been implemented I will still be using the Mind Watch in paid gigs.

Javascript:emoticon(':applause:') Seldom do we see posts that contain so much analytical thinking. Mark wrote:. I have for years told my pupils - I have some gifted ones and tuition and props are free - always mix in tricks that obviously are not "electronic" like book tests, Glance etc, and never use electronic in a way that brings to mind modern miracles like parking gates opening without you having to insert the receipt anywhere, use as much misdirection as you can come up with. Ask the specs to write down things when it is not needed at all. Do not show you are able to know how they put the die, fake writing down a number tell them you will try to influence them, turn around an then lift the paper up and ask, did you put the die the way I wanted you to do it ? You thereby avoid being asked "how did you know" and can say, it was not me knowing what you did, it was you being able to sense what I wanted. The same goes for the three dice, If you just tell them, I have the feeling you rolled the sum of 17 they will start trying to figure out how you could know that. If you combine it with By Choice and by Chance telling them to go to the page they rolled in a well known book and then read their mind, they will not examine the dice but the ungaffed book. This is also very well stated, "The app is fantastic but it is very difficult to justify looking at your phone during an actual performance." EXACTLY !! THAT IS WHY I want a watch, preferably a bit more elegant than the "black plastic monster" I have now and try to keep out of sight. The AP and the watch are a good pair, and you can relatively easily take a peek at the watch, which in case you are caught is a sign of bad manners but not unjustified like looking at your phone. In case you need a phone for the Apple watch, I am less enthusiastic. My pockets are pretty overstuffed already. AND LAST NOT LEAST: all these discussions should be in another department of the Café.

As far as the black monster is concerned I suspect that if I showed you my peek you would fall in love with that black monster
My dicing with death routine should be provided with the full set of dice but I can’t recall if the peek is fully described in the routine. Mark |

Mark, is your dicing with death described anywhere other than here in the Café? I thought you mentioned it possibly being supplied with an appropriate estooge order, but it didn’t come with mine. I would be very interested in some of your peek subtleties, if you are willing to share.

Scott,
I sent it to the eStooge guys and gave permission for it to be included with the dice. Drop them a line and they should be able to send it to you. If we can get an owners facebook group I can make a video of the peek. Mark |

Hello to all contributors to this thread. This is my first post..
I can now offer my views on the subject following my trip to Blackpool. I concur entirely with all the 'Positive' opinions regarding the eStooge products as I have just bought them all. Couldn't resist it; Gidy and I spent hours going through the details and of course, he demonstrated the power of these products through pseudo performances. If anyone remains undecided I would urge you re-read Mark_Chandaue's posts, he is clearly an authority on this subject with a balanced point of view regarding Product functionality/support V's Value for money/similar products. eStooge does indeed win every time. If there's any value in my contribution I'd like to be this .... We Magie's cannot always guarantee we are buying good customer service when we buy products and often just hope for the best when doing so. With eStooge and Gidy, in particular, their passion and pride in their products and the brilliant customer service adds another layer of value which can be easily overlooked when weighing up the pros & cons of who to trust with your hard earned cash. Gidy is a Performing Mentalist as well the sales & marketing guy so you know he 'gets it' on both levels. I witnessed this first hand in Blackpool and was reassured of his sheer commitment to our product satisfaction. Robert. |
