Does anyone have experience using this deck for sleight of hand? I'm curious how well it handles. At the moment I'm particularly interested in Paul Wilson's Gypsy Monte, so I'm also wondering what the Death card looks like and whether it stands out nicely for the surprise ending.
The deck comes in two sizes, one roughly 4 by 7 inches, the other somewhat bigger than poker cards. Any recommendations on which is easier to work with and which creates the most striking effect? Thanks for your help! Bob |

My decks from 20 and 30 years ago handle fine and are nice quality cards. The newer ones are much thinner and flimsy. So I would say it depends on the cards you get and who made them. Also, if you get them from eBay or sellers on Amazon (and I will wager many shops) you will get bootleg cards from China or Eastern European countries, these cards are very thin and of poor quality.

I have the smaller deck which has the added bonus of the two alternative versions of the Magician card, plus a restoration of the original colors. I like how they handle as well; much easier to shuffle when giving readings. Plus the back has a white border allowing for easier use of certain sleights.

I've had the original large deck for 30+ years. It's a beautiful deck, the images much less 'static' than most others, full of swirling motion. It's great for easy manipulations or self-working stuff, but the large deck is completely unsuitable for sleights. Some people can't even shuffle it, as it's too large for their hands and they drop cards.

Thanks for all your help, everybody. Sounds like I should get the small deck if anything, since Wilson's trick uses a double lift. But I was disappointed to hear that the quality of the cards isn't what it used to be. Just fyi, Philemon, the new decks on Amazon come with only one magician card. Maybe one of the old decks will come up on eBay...
