Sight unseen (those with the product must help me out here) I'd say (1) you can "write" with a Sharpie rather than a pencil and (2) you can steal and hide the thing without going to a pocket. Yes? Have I divined the correct answer without even looking? |

Thanks Neil.
I'd just like to take the chance to comment on how it's always a pleasure to read your comments and replies. I've followed Mr. Tobin's posts here and elsewhere, and they go far beyond just a good marketer interested in furthering his business. Your customer service is superlative (no other words), and speaking of wording, your posts are almost always carefully written, thoughtful and enlightening. Cheers. |

Yes? Have I divined the correct answer without even looking? Ding ding! Give that man a stuffed parrot! Here's the deal: If you're happy using a pencil or listo NW, you'll have no reason to get this. If, like me, you've been praying daily for a workable, low-maintenance Sharpie NW, you may very well love it. As Neil alluded to above, one of these and his Xpert can make a terrifying combination. I've developed several NW-and-Xpert-based routines that just got a lot easier and more practical to do. Some have mentioned angle problems. Yes, there is something you have to conceal for a time, and it's slightly bigger and more noticeable than what you have to conceal while using other kinds of NWs. Personally I don't think this is anything that can't be worked around, and the payoff is well worth having to deal with a little angle management. And for your trouble, you get an extra feature that, as far as I know, isn't present with any other NW design. Without revealing too much, suffice it to say that the SS makes it easier to have your predictions look like normal adult handwriting rather than the scrawlings of a 4-year-old. Quinn

Gosh, this product is way better than any type of NW out there. Its a great gimmick.

A totally different question:
It's wonderful that you can write real sharpe-text, but what about the sound? A sharpie makes a very noticable sound. Doesn't the spectator hear something is being written? Mikael |

The only drawback I have is feeling a lack of complete control over the writing instrument. Chris Smith suggests putty to adhere to the thumb, but I've been working with double-sided clear tape that's a little bigger than the writer and therefore gives me more control over it. If that makes sense.

Is it a boon style or undernail style writer?

It's a boon-type writer. As for sound issues, they could be a factor depending on your environment and your writing surface, but probably no moreso than with any other NW. Nothing that can't be overcome with a little thought.

Hey BenSchwartz,
I bought the SS without knowing it was a NW! You see, I purchased it when it first came out long before all the speculation about it here in the Café eventually revealed that it actually was a NW. They tend to be protective of a product's method of operation when it first comes out and these are the risks one takes being an early adopter of something new. If I had known that it used a NW, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place because yes, I have people all around me when I perform. Now that it's been out there for a while, perhaps we'll hear how well it's being applied. |

When it comes to ways around curious problems with NW's, mainly the issue of pencil being used as opposed to ink ( for the most part ), I am shocked by people's lack of even a hint to Osterlinds idea about this on his DVD series. Considering how popular his series is, and the fact that items like this continue to try and resolve some issues that some people have with NW's, it's curious no one has infered anything.
I suppose that can be a good thing. As beautiful as the idea is, it isn't being spoiled by lack of restaint for details by fellow Café members. And perhaps I should just stay quiet and endulge in the devious method. To note I am in no way shape or form attempting to degredate this product or all the hard work, time and efforts gone into it. For many people this might be the answer they have been looking for, I just think people should know that other less orthodox solutions are out there.

For the record, its the best NW out there. I have been KILLING my audiences with it, and by the way, I am completely surrounded while performing sometimes and yes, it has been working because its all how you use the NW.

Hey Guys,
I bought the SS about a week ago. At first I thought it was unusable in my type of work. Instead of throwing it in the back of my magic closet, I began practicing with it. The instructional CD is awesome. I will definately be carrying this one around with me. I like the fact that Chris teaches how to change the ink. He could have been greedy and made his customers order another SS after theirs ran outta ink. Steve |

I received this about a week ago & don't have a good feeling about stealing the gimmick as shown on the CD Rom. Does anybody have a better method to steal the gimmick?
