I don't own a split coin, but I do have the DVD Split happens by Craig Petty. I think most, if not all the routines could be done with a TUC. Both coins have the magnetic advantage. With TUC, you can show both sides of the insert, as long as you don't show the edge. Tuc allows you to put a ) over it. A sh@@@@d ) gives you many more options. In my opinion, TUC is the more versatile gaff.

I think you need to have a routine in mind first. Then find out if there is other ways to do that routine. After that it is just a preference on what gaffs you may want or need.

The trade offs for gaff coins can sometimes be minimal and you have to justify if the price spent is worth the cost.

I second both of these thoughts.
The TUC gives you pretty much everything the split would, and is still possible to separate one handed.
You should also focus on a routine rather than a gaff, unless you're specifically wanting the gaff to do specific visuals/methods (e.g. dropping a fl****r) but the TUC should have all the overlap you need, there.
I think the only exception I can think of offhand is if you need a triple split, which is more different.

But if you absolutely must have one, I'd say there are two primary considerations:
1) What coin and/or size do you want?
2) Do you need it to be double-sided or not?

Most of coins where the answers are "half dollars" and "no" are extremely similar. And if the answer to either is different, you'll have far fewer options.

Triple Splits are great. If Dollar size then the total thickness is very close to normal coin. Going smaller like half and quarter then need to stick with single splits.
I have Kueppers Transient Coins are fantastic doing a 0 to 3 Coins, transpose and 3 to 0. Looks like Triad but smoother and quieter.

Split coins are superior to the TUC, in spite of all the hype. I have put split coins in the hands of spectators and never have they been detected. they are far easier to separate than the TUC. Few people talk about all the problems of separating certain Tuc coins. so the Tuc is a fantasy piece; the split coin is far more versatile and useful.

but magicians would often rather have a toy than the most useful gimmick. but a good split coin reigns supreme.

Does anyone know if the routines in the Split Happens DVD can be done with Transient Coins by Roy Kueppers, or with the casino triple split coins?

You could use 2 parts of the casino triple split (I assume you mean JJ Coin coalaition) you just wont ever show the casino part. The coin used in the dvd never shows the "inner" part (which is blank)

Would you recommend the casino triple split set over the double face super triple coin?
