Just read the advert on Lybrary; it sounds fantastic. Just wondering if anyone in the know would be willing to say if the routine met their expectations.

Sounds a lot like the Modern Mindreader by Hewit and revisited by Osterlind in The Very Modern Mindreader

I went for it. Each of you give me two dollars and I'll tell you of it's any good.

That's a very tempting offer John, though I may just take the plunge blindly. However, if generosity strikes you and you feel like imparting your thoughts, I'd be willing to take'em in free of charge

Haha. What I can say is...you can do what the blurb says. It's not very difficult. You just have to pay attention. I will not work it for ten folks maybe 2 or 3 but it can be done for this as well. There may be some angle stuff if you are in a relaxed situation.
It's ok and worth 12 dollars...I think. |

Thanks John, I appreciate your thoughts, so.... it's not "Â the best all-around modus operandi ever offered to the profession?" Any good for a one on one?

The question being, how close is it to the (very) modern mindreader ?

The ad is fantastic...almost on par with something Docc might write.

I got it, and I’m in agreement that this looks very much like Very Modern Mindreader by Osterlind. At least, it would look pretty much identical from the audience perspective.

I don't know that it lives up to such immense hype. The blurb is accurate in what you can do with it, but I don't see it as poised to fundamentally alter the world of mentalism. |

The ad for the original effect: Hewitt's The Modern Mind Reader published in Annemann's Mental Bargain Effects later on, was as over the top.
Here's an extract: Here we have the ACME of Perfection in both simplicity and perfect presentation. Any stationery may be used or borrowed. There isn't a single gimmick or fake of any kind. No chemicals or liquids. The envelopes are perfectly opaque. Each envelope held to forehead is positively unprepared and securely sealed. Never before has such a method as this been possible with envelopes and cards which eliminate all chances of palming, etc. Not a single sleight or quick move of any kind. |
