This was probably my most favorite effect from the entire T.A. Box set. I've only had the opportunity to perform it a handful of times as the nature of the trick is definitely situational and not friendly to every type of venue due to the fire and smoke, but it absolutely kills! There is no way for the spectator to back track and it simply leaves them dumbfounded with jaws on the floor. I've done Fire Trapped and even Business Trapped a lot in the past as well. They are great effects in their own right but the set up for each does take a while. What I love about Water Trap is this one can be done virtually on the fly if you have a pack of matches a dime and an alternate vanish. If you don't have the T.A. set already, you should really pick this one up! Great job on this Bro!

Is the matchbook examinable when the trick begins? Is the prep work done before the routine begins? Or... does the prep work happen during the routine?

If you watch the routine you can see the spectator handles the matchbook before anything happens. I just watched the download and really like this! The prep time is about 20-30 seconds and can be done at your gig. Though not in front of anybody. Yes, this has to be situational due to the fire/smoke aspect but I think this effect will be remembered by your audience! The handling is super easy. You can use a gimmick for the coin vanish but if you forget it, as lanston3711 stated, you can use any dime as long as you have an alternate vanish.
If you have outdoor gigs, this is something you will want to perform. Definitely one of the best $10.00 downloads I have purchased! RNK

It'd pass a cursory look over, but not a thorough examination.

This is f’in brilliant. I use a different method for the coin vanish, but perform the rest of the routine exactly as described. This is the first effect that I’ve seen in a very long time that’s deserving of 5 out of 5 stars.

Okay I have to admit, I didn't think I was going to like this.. but boy was I wrong!
I was expecting there to be a lot of difficult gimmick making and rubber cement and the likes, but I was please to find you can actually set the main gimmick up in your lap while sitting at the table! It takes a little work, but mostly, it's a simple gimmick to make. It is actually very clever and VERY well thought out from beginning to end. All of the moves make sense and appear completely copasetic. There's a gimmick taught which vanished the dime as well and it is quite clever too. It allows the dime to visually be in their hand, they close their hand up, and when they open it, the dime is no where to be found. It's quite clever. I will be doing this, no doubt. It's fun, it's intriguing, and it's DIFFERENT. It's not just a boring old card trick. Bro also briefly discusses a method to allow you to "vanish" the coin with no gimmicks (I use "vanish" lightly.) And honestly, I really liked his idea. It adds another level of novelty to the routine which will make it last longer in the audience's memory. Long story short: get this. If you like the sound of the routine, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the method. I was surprised at how well thought out all aspects of the routine are. It definitely doesn't seem to just be thrown together, which sometimes happens with big projects like the TA box set. Madison |
