Hello guys!

I am currently studying the work of Simon Aronson and came across his effect Past - Present - Future, published in his book simply simon.

I think that this is a wonderful effect, however the presentation and patter that is provided does not really speak to me.
I like the concept of choosing cards that represent the past, present and future of a person. My problem lies more
in the way the past card is revealed. In the book, Simon gives the advice to take your spectators palm, "read it"
and to say the number at which their card lies at out loud.

It is the "reading" of the palm that bothers me. But sadly, I can't come up with another way of revealing the number.

To the people who know or perform this effect: do you use the "palm-reading-technique" or do you use another way to reveal the past card?

Thank you for your input!

I do. People like having their palm read more than they like seeing card tricks for the most part. I'd advise you to try it as Simon Says, if you haven't.

I generally say something like this: "The past doesn't just exist in our minds, but also is retained within the musculature and nerves of the body. You may not have realized it, but even the lines on your hands have been formed every day, month and year according to your past experiences. (look at spec's hands) See all these lines? (then I start arbitrarily counting lines on the hand). 28 lines. Then the number 28 must be connected to your past. (count 28 cards) What card did you pick to represent your past? (show card)"

They don't have to believe it, you don't have to believe it, but it's fun that it turns out to be correct.

BTW, for the future card, since you know what it is, instead of Simon's ending, I do a quick reading. "I'm getting that your future is concerned with groups of other people. And that communication will play an important part. Maybe a spokesperson for a large corporation. In card fortunetelling, the groups would be indicated by the suit of clubs, and the involvement with communication would be indicated by the number three. The three of clubs. I wonder if you foretold your own future accurately. Reach into your pocket and take out the card you put there a few minutes ago..."

Wonderful ideas! I thank you very much for your input! I will for sure try to perform it like simon says and I will do my best "reading their palms" Smile
Your ideas on the presentation of the future card is also very good. I like that the face of the future card has a real meaning in your way of presenting it. I will try this!

Any more input is welcomed!
