Well my summer reading library shows will be beginning soon, I theme the show around what the summer reading theme is this year
Its "Explore other worlds @ your Library" my basic idea for the show is presenting myself as an explorer and the kids and I are going to explore other worlds, I have a bunch of tricks and routines in mind but would like to get some ideas from others. For example I say we will need some important items today first and most important a "Library card"(any ideas on how to produce this magically) then of course we need a flashlight(perform flashlight fun) first thing we are going to do is go back in time(healed and sealed soda) so we are going back in time to visit King Midas(Barry mitchells King midas routine) I have a bunch of other ideas but they are not set in stone so lets get some ideas going but..... 1. my style is more funny then dramatic. 2 it must fit in my suitcase table 3 NO CARD TRICKS LOL so any help would be great thanks! Explore other worlds...
How about exploring that theme with coins as you could perform a Copper/Silver routine using the Half Dollar/British Penny transposition. Bannon has a nice routine where the Half Dollar turns into a British Penny which then turns into two Chinese coins. It's clean, amazing, and fairly easy to do if you can classic palm. It's found on the Impossibilia tape and is named Shanghai Surprise. It's probably in the book as well, but check. This is just an example, but a Copper/Silver or Copper/Silver/Brass routine plays off of the international theme and you can tweak the patter to fit your style. |

David Copperfield's Portal effect would go down well. Now, we just need a few million dollars worth of equipment.

Hey Ken, I din't realize that was your product, that is great, I recently saw a friend perform that(unfortunatly he is not such a great performer) that is on my Grocery list for the fall, I am trying to keep my budget really tite this year! I am actually dusting off a lot of things I have bought and never used, but that is a great routine that can be used in any reading show and I do a lot of them!

An easy approach is to take the kids to different countries and cultures around the world. Tie each effect into a book about that country as well.
Examples: Linking rings - China Hipity Hop Rabbits - different countries and about how we are all equal no matter what the color of our skin Sword basket - India 3 card monte - Coney Island - NY There are a ton more but you can get the idea. It could work out very nicely for you. Kyle

Ok heres it what I came up with!
start out talking about as since we are exploring other worlds we need a few things to go exploring with a library card and a flashlight(go into flashlight fun) next have a child come up,make a pirate hat,a telescope, and a ships steering wheel all out of newspaper, he is going to bring us to distant lands(talk about the book "how I became a pirate") so we are going to greece to learn about the legend of king midas(do barry mitchells "king midas") have the child come back up and steer us somewere else(turn the paper telescope into the growing tree, wow we are in the jungle now(pick 2 volunteers and perform chico the chimp) child comes up one more time and steers to easter island(ya know that's were the easter bunny lives, then go into rabbit in the hat puppet) book titles and description will be worked into all of this, hand out coloring sheets,b-day sheets to parents and make available a reading list of the books we talked about so they can check them out of the library! well that's the basic outline!

Very nice. Now you are starting to get the ideas going. I like the idea of the child steering to distant lands. That is a wonderful theme that can work very well for you.
