I have one of these, been sitting in my box since the bands broke years back. Now, I have the replacement bands, but have no idea how to go about replacing them.. can anyone point me in the right direction please?
I found a few references to 2 piece folding coins - but not 3 piece.. Trying to save myself time here, by reaching out... Thanks! DCB

Just put the band on the middle piece first. Then the rest should be easy.

If it's been sitting for years and there was a band in it, it's probably rotted in place and gummed up the grooves -- or even crystallized and gotten hard, blocking them. If that's the case, get some pro-strength Goof Off solvent/cleaner, put a small amount in a bottom of a glass you don't care too much about, and soak the pieces for a couple/few hours. The stuck pieces will soften/dissolve right out. It doesn't take much solvent... just enough so the pieces are covered.
Then consider replacing the bands with elastic cord: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/29h2osli3ju3t......CX8xDXra |

That has happened to me. I left the rubber band on the coin and put the coin away and didn't use it for a very long time. When I went to get it out about a year later, I removed the rubber band that was previously around it, but it came out in dry pieces.
I went to put the new rubber band around the coin and noticed it protruding out in some places. So I removed the new rubber band and looked at the edge with a magnifying glass and there were tiny bits of the old rubber band still stuck in the groove. So you can do as Inigmntoya suggested or you can take a needle that will fit inside the groove, like I did, and sort of dig it out. Now when I know I won't be using the folding coin for some time, I remove the rubber band so I don't have to go through this again. I have the 3 piece folding coin and you can either do as Why.So.Serious suggested or you can place the rubber band on either end first and go from there. I've done it both ways and never had a problem. Once the rubber band is around the entire coin, I get a pin and push it between the edge of the coin and the rubber band and sort of stretch the rubber band around the entire coin so the tension of the rubber band is equally distributed. |

Thanks for all that info so far, guys - I thought there was more than one band involved...which is where the confusion set in. Now I have it in front of me, and I'm gon give it a go.. I also have a flipper coin in need of a fix. Fortunately, I'd removed the old rotten band when it broke, so there shouldn't be a prob fitting the replacement. (on both the coins, I mean). I've never actually used them in performance - I seem to recall having a problem removing the coin from the bottle..and I gave up on it and moved on to Cap in Bottle (Charlie Justice).. Prohibition, I think it was, and performed that for years..Now that PK rings are pretty expensive... I'm looking at the basic coin in bottle again. Thank you all so far, again. Let you know how it goes..!

Some people do use two bands on a folder to get a stiffer hold.

Can't believe how easy it was to position the band. Unfortunately - getting it out the bottle in one piece is proving more difficult. Pretty sure the band's the correct size. Maybe the tension isn't equal all the way round. I'll give it a try now, with 2 bands, as suggested by Poof-Daddy... I'll keep you updated..
Inigementoya - I'm not familiar with the sort of elastic cord that would be fine enough for this. And how about figuring the length/tension? Trial and error? Tks so far... DCB

Did you stretch the rubber band before putting it? this will loosen the tension and prevent the band from breaking prematurely.

I've had to put it to one side again.. Can't seem to get the coin out the bottle without it collapsing, with any consistency. Using a Tango half dollar, bottle with a sloping neck, and exiting the coin with a downward push. I seem to have even tension on the band. The band doesn't break - it comes off. I'll examine the groove under my microscope in case there's an obstruction.
Thanks again, so far.. (not so good)! dcb
