I would imagine the number is quite low. But it would be very difficult to say for sure, when you consider questions such as, "How do you define "full-time"?. One very well-known mentalist once told me at the height of his career he used to work 2-3 times a week, but now only works about once a week, with his income supported by product sales from his website, which include both mentalism and mental magic products.
Then there are mentalists who perform occasionally, but derive a significant portion of their income from consulting projects as well as selling books, DVDs, downloads, etc. Are they counted as "full-time" mentalists? Or part-time mentalists, part-time consultants and part-time creators/marketers? Another consideration are people who appear to be "full-time" mentalists and perform regularly, but also have other employment, either full or part-time, or had a full-time career in a different field from which they are now retired (and receive a pension from, which may provide a significant portion of their income). Off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 well-known individuals who I think *may* be full-time mentalists, but I really don't know if mentalism performances constitute the majority of their income, or if they also have other careers/jobs/businesses they rely on for a significant portion of their income. |

It also greatly depends on your definition of mentalist too.
