I never got to meet Harry Anderson in person but I made several things for him. Always ordered 2 of everything. I ended up doing 3 identical CUBE A LIBRES for him. Sent him 2 of the sets one to keep and one he was gifting to a friend. Got an order for a third a few months latter. He told me in a hurry to pack up after a show he had forgot to put it in the trunk and backed over it with his car.
I only spoke to him once on the phone and I will never forget it. I checked my voice mail one day and there were 2 mesages from Harry, The first was nice the second was not. He was having problems with a prop I sent him and was not happy his call had not been returned. I called the number he left for me and began yelling at me for sending him a non working piece, I asked if he had read the instructions.....Wrong thing to ask as that set him really off. When he calmed down I asked him to read a part of the instructions. He paused for a moment and said well that makes sense it works fine now. He then said in a very kind tone sorry I can really be a horses a** sometimes. After that day no one has ever been sent to voice mail or talked to an answering machine when they call my shop. So if you ever call me and it just rings....thats why. He will be missed but always remembered.

Awwwww, man! Not Harry!! He was much too young to be taken from us!
This really shocked me. I can't believe he's gone. Harry was always a great inspiration to me. Enjoyed using his releases over the years, including "Gang Of Four", "Jumbo Marked", and others. What a great man taken way too early.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I was in college, and saw Harry and Leslie (the Amazing Andersons) perform their show at the Gaslight Theatre in Austin (a tiny theater, now long gone) several times around 1980, and still consider it the best magic show I’ve ever seen. The first half of the show featured Harry doing the comedy magic bits that would later become classics, but after the intermission the tone of the show changed completely. It was spooky, with moody lighting, and featured the duo’s mentalsim act, which was both romantic and mysterious (and I’m typically not a fan of mentalistm acts). Harry also performed his linking finger ring routine, with patter inspired by Peter S. Beagle’s ‘The Last Unicorn’. In anyone else’s hands, it would have seemed overly sentimental, even treacly, but since Harry had established himself in the First Act as the opposite of sentimental, the ultimate cynical wiseguy, the effect was astonishingly magical and moving. At the end of the show, Leslie was tied to a chair while Harry was secured in a straitjacket, the two competing to see who could escape first. Harry of course tried to cheat in the most unchivalrous, shocking way imaginable. But it was hilarious, and so the show came full circle. I only met the guy once, but I love the fact that he was a part of this world. I feel like a piece of my youth just died…

I also started a thread on here when I heard about this, and I may have mentioned it there, but one of my very first memories is watching Night Court on tv as a small child. Sitting on the floor near the tv, in a blanket after just having had a bath(I was dad's remote before anyone had them). The rest of my family on the couch. Night Court on the color tv.
Harry was always a favorite of mine, because he was so childlike and whimsical. I'm sure I was not the only kid who felt that way. Harry is one of the main reasons I ever had a love for magic to begin with. Anyone who watched Night Court knows how often he worked his magic and gags into the show. It was wonderful. If there is an afterlife, I look forward to finally meeting him one day. If there is not, I am proud to say he is a part of the early childhood that made me who I am today. And I feel like that means a part of him lives on in me(and anyone else he touched for that matter). So let's all keep living for Harry. I know his memory definitely won't die anytime soon. |

I was under the impression that he had another magic special (other then Hello Sucker).
I remember that he has performed the Jumbo card on the seat (Chuck Fayne). Anyone remember?

In my more than 25 years of doing magic, I have re-discovered that the most magical audiences are children. They make the best audiences because they don't hide their surprise, or joy, or happiness: all of which, my Magic show will bring to life. |

Harry did a special for CBS called "The Tricks of HIs Trade" in 1996. He performed a cups and balls routine, a Himber Wallet money routine and the jumbo card on the seat (among other things). He sold a limited number of DVD's of this show through Owens Magic Supreme. I always wondered if Harry actually had the rights from CBS to produce and sell those DVDs, haha.
