I have had the Magic SwitchBox-IV for a little while. I had a question on it and e-mailed the creator last night. Today, when I got home from work, I had the answer to my question waiting for me. This was really amazing service. If you are concerned about getting something electronic and you're worried about support, don't be!
I got this on a whim and I have to say that I'm really having fun just playing around with it. I'm presently working on a routine so that I can perform it for other people and not just have it be an electronic gimmick. To those who are concerned about difficult memory work, you don't have to worry. This is really simple to use (it must be if I can do it!)! Dave
Just adding my 3 cents worth because anybody can add their 2 cents worth...

Also check out the Special offer on the Magic SwitchBox III SE+ for a mere $103.99 - It's a steal. With the advent of new emerging technology and fresh thinking on these kinds of gizmos, IMO these are the best world class prop (gizmo) available at present. I can assure you that you will be happy to get one. Hope that helps.

I had one of these a few years back and while intriguing, I never could figure a good way to include using one in a performance setting.

I am very surprised there’s no mention of rain clouds version which in my opinion looks better than anything out there because it’s all exposed. It’s extremely easy to use, it’s very well made and not expensive. http://www.raincloudmagic.com/custom-magic/

Ustaad,
If I am following the thread you recommend the III SE+ over the IV for a "first timer." But, I think I also read that the IV requires less memory work. May I ask... why did you recommend the III SE+ over the IV ? |

Hi Scott,
Though there is very little difference in the working/operating and functioning of the two switch boards (i.e. the version IV and III SE+). However the III SE+ requires almost no memory work (except you need to follow two very basic and simple rules, which even a 10 year can follow). However the main difference in the two switch boards:- III SE+ : Both, the bulbs as well as the color markers, are absolutely normal and un-gimmicked. IV : In this, the bulbs are absolutely normal and un-gimmicked, but the color markers are not. Also with these switch boards there are almost limitless permutation/combinations available to play with. All one need to do is to follow the two basic but very simple rules. That's all. OK, here is something I found out while playing with the III SE+ (I don't think that the creators know about this). After you have performed the various electrical permutation-n-combinations, you move on to the finale. Here is what happens in the finale:- Ask the spectator to remove all the bulbs as well as all the color markers. The spectator mix them up and then decide where each bulb as well as the color markers go (in no particular order). No force whatsoever. Once the bulbs and markers have been placed, WAALA the bulbs light-up with respect to their color markers. This is simply killing/jaw dropping/mindbogglingly. I have never seen something happening like this in many of the other makes of switch boards that I have come across and played with. For the various possibilities the III SE+ can offer, you might like to checkout this demo video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvYlQlXINvc No doubt that the Canadian make Switch Boards gets the WORLD CLASS stamp. Also I would like to mention that price wise, these unbeatable world class switch boards are the cheapest available in the market. For the III SE+, checkout the super special low price here - https://magicswitchbox.wixsite.com/magic......al-offer - - PROVIDED you can glue the 'multiple bulbs lighting switch-caps holder' yourself. Get it, if you can! I can assure you won't be disappointed. Hope that helps. Best regards, Narendra

Narendra,
I know you have the rain cloud version on the order. I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it. I also owned the Canadian version, and sold it because I like this One much better for several reasons. First it’s much easier, second I like the fact that all the wiring is exposed, it’s much more intriguing. I also found thru many performances, Randis patter is perfect, of course slightly tweaked to fit my style. And the cost I believe is lower. |

Hi David,
My son has ordered the Raincloud version for me. As you know I took the plunge after talking to you. Since the Raincloud Magic Switch Boards are custom made to order pieces, its going to take up to two weeks for delivery. So I wait eagerly for the prop to arrive. Once I have the prop in hand and I have fully understood its working as well as pros-n-cons, I will post a fair and honest comparative review of the two - the Canadian as well as the Raincloud version. However, pending arrival of the Raincloud prop, here are my initial thoughts on the Raincloud and the Canadian versions:- On this thread, a lot has already been spoken on the Canadian version. As for the Raincloud version I can, for now, talk based on the demo video and the description given on the website. Before I pen my thoughts, I would humbly suggest (for those interested in such a gizmo) to watch the following two demo vids:- Canadian III SE+ - - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvYlQlXINvc Raincloud - - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_0M_ms16Do Based on the above two demo vids one will agree that the Canadian version has almost unlimited possibilities (permutation-n-combinations) as compared to the Raincloud version. And now to answer your above post and may I please quote:- Quote:
On Apr 3, 2019, The Baldini wrote: Ease of Use: I see no difference in the ease of use between the two versions. Both versions are based on a simple rule(s) to be followed. Exposed Wiring: Yes, that's a big advantage the Raincloud version enjoys and that's the reason I ordered one. Patter: Well IMO patter has got nothing to do with the working and features of the two different props in question. Any performer (I am not calling the performer a 'magician', as IMO this is NOT a magic prop but a puzzling and intriguing puzzle-box) worth his salt should be able to show this effect based on his experience and performance style and hence one should be able to create his own effective patter & story-line. Cost: The cost of the Canadian III SE+ is just about half of the Raincloud version. The III SE+ costs $106, whereas the Raincloud version is priced at $200. David, in case you had owned this specific 'Canadian III SE+' version, I think you should have kept it. After all, IMO its one of the best world class prop available as on date. But that's just ME & MY opinion. You know better. Hope that clarifies for now . . . more when I receive the Raincloud prop. Best regards, Narendra

The Canadian version I had, was the original.. The rain cloud, can only be done one way. That may be a drawback to some, it never was for me. I like it simply because of the exposed wire..

Hello...
The story behind my version, which is the Raincloud version.... When I first saw this effect, it fooled me good. I saw it when a few magicians were doing a public show, and I was part of it. A friend of mine, who has since passed away, did the Collectors Workshop version, and I loved it, but not so much with the audience. They thought it was neat, but that was about it. That's when I realized the reason I loved it so much, and why it fooled me so bad, is because I know electronics. I know why it shouldn't be able to be possible, but the average person has a device in their pocket that can talk to people around the world, take pictures, get online.. etc etc Of course I am talking about a smart phone. So when people just see some lights light up, they have a hard time getting it and why it's amazing. That's when I figured out that electricity needs to be explained to the audience and why it shouldn't work, and why it's amazing that it does. I thought the best way to explain electricity would be like a science fair project, and that's what I set out to do. You would need to be able to see the wires that the electricity flows through and the switches that connect and break the current. Science fair projects are never fancy. That's why I went with straight up plywood, knife switches, exposed wire, a battery bank, and simple bulb sockets. That way you can explain how the electricity flows and the audience can see it. Then it's amazing when it starts working different. I did make a custom one that looked like it was made by Edison.. Same thing, just hardwood, bigger bulbs, and I recreated clothe covered wires. All was aged to look old. Any way... Just thought I would chime in a explain my thoughts behind it. Now back to work on them. Randi |

@ Rhettbryson: Wow, it is so nice to know that you continue to watch and follow this thread.
I would refer to Professor Rhett Bryson as my guide and mentor. He is the one who painstakingly guided me and suggested (through PMs) the latest Canadian version of this puzzling and intriguing gizmo. Mr. Bryson has in-depth knowledge on the various such Switch Boards out there. Today I am very happy and proud that I listened to him and now I own one of the finest world class prop in this category. And that's the reason I am trying to share my knowledge and experience with our Café friends and thus trying to advocating this Canadian version for the benefit of our respected members. IMO and knowledge, as on date the Canadian version is the best available Switch Board on the market. Thank you Mr. Rhett for all your help and guidance. I am very grateful. P.S. @ Randi: It will be so nice if you can please ship my Switch Board ASAP. I will give it an honest review, I promise.
