Yo.
this topic is pretty much for any aussie mage.... Where do you get your supplies from? I'm particulary interested from hearing from the NSW magician`s. and what do you think of the prices? They are, (or I have found) a bit extreme compared to the prices on the net

For me, I've been buying my stuff from Penguin Magic, mainly DVD's, some decks of Bicycles and couple of gimmick decks.
I've bought stuff from Hey Presto and Taylor's Magic in the past, but their prices are pretty high compared to Penguin even with the exchange rate. I can buy a US$30 DVD for around AUS$40, much cheaper then paying $70 for a DVD here. Add to that, Hey Presto are in the process of changing hands, I don't know what they are gonna be selling and at what prices???? I couldn't even buy a deck of cards a few weeks ago. Much cheaper off the net even with shipping costs. |

G'day L7
I make most of my purchases from Taylor's but I am happy to deal with the other dealers if they have what I need. I am inclined to support the Australian dealers as they need to make a living and they support the art of magic here in Auz. However I am also keen to pick up a bargin if I can, so I keep an eye out for the sales. I just ordered some sponge balls from Taylor's that were on special. The other issue is that there appears to be a much wider range available on the net but it worries me that I may be purchasing something that bears little resemblence to what is advertised. I like the fact that purchasing localy from someone who knows you means that you can negotiate to return things if they are crook. Bob Latta (Troppo Bob) |

Heya L7, Check out Melbourne's 'The Magic Store' at http://www.themagicstore.com.au . Easily the freshest and coolest magic shop in Oz. And, they have free shipping Australia wide. The only store I know of to drop it's prices inline with the strength of the Aussie dollar too! The staff are really helpful, and they have a great range of products. Hmmm...I feel kinda like a salesman. Kamal, your store's cool. That's all that needs to be said really. -- Topher |

I'm a bit afraid ..(just a bit :S) to order over the net with a credit card, are there other options? cause I have been the victim of many virus`s/trojans/ and keyloggers in the past

I admit that prices in Australia can seem expensive, but they do have sales where thing can be down to 60% or more, so this is still go enough reson for you to take note of Aussie dealers.

Well, as Troppo Bobby Dazzler mentioned before, there is Taylor's Magic Shop in Sydney. They're located in Chatswood, and their web addie is:
Hang on... Haven't found it yet... Just a second... Oh yeah!! http://www.taylorsmagicshop.com/ There's also a magic shop in the Imperial Arcade, Sydney. Their web address is: http://www.heyprestomagic.com.au/ Out of the two, I've heard excellent reviews of Taylor's Magic Shop. I'd never heard of Hey Presto before today. But check out each one and decide for yourself. I would still recommend Melbourne's 'The Magic STore' though. And infact, I don't believe you can order online. It's done over the phone, as far as I know. Check out the website, and give the boys a call. They're really friendly, and incredibly helpful. A couple of you mentioned ordering over the net, which is cool. I did it for a while, but decided to stick to paying a little extra in the stores purely because of the advice and encouragement you can get in an actual "bricks and mortar" store. But stick to what works for you. -- Topher |

Hey Presto`s, although the guys who own the store are great dudes, as far as there range of items goes, its more of a party supply shop (mask`s, costumes, etc)
they do have a wide range of DVD`s but I think they are more for the performer of children`s shows and children themself Taylor`s magic is meant to be the top magic store in australia/new zealand. As for the prices though, I dunno. I guess they have a right to charge what they do when you think logically there is store rental fee`s advertising buying there items to sell here and ofcoarse just like anyone, they gotta make a profit 2... but I just cant afford magic items

They are rather extreme... but can't do anything about it.
I used to live in the states so its a bit of hurt for me. However, Taylors does have on ocassion DVDs at $50 which is a little more reasonable... but still more expensive than ordering from penguin or magicproshop/ magicwarehouse etc. The latter is cheapest when ordering small items. Taylor's is the shop you should go to first.
Sean Taylor will give you advice from his 20 years of experience in the magic industry. With taylors you get knowledge- and for someone starting out this is what you need more than a bargan from penguin. Also Sean Taylor is responsible for bringing out lecturers such as Mike Ammar Daryl Greg Wilson Jay Sankey Chad Long and a zillion other top entertainers at super day where Sean Doesn't make much out of Super Day. When you shop price is important but you are also paying for his advice and help. Also is a DVD is $30 US with the exchange rate at 76c $39 plus GST $3.9 = $42.9 Plus shipping which in bulk can be around $5 each DVD total $47.9 Profit = $70 - $47.9 = $22 it's not much profit take out advertising and rent you got a bargan. Plus Sean is the only magic shop in Australia that has a CD with trick highlights. you can see demos of the trick before you buy from a master entertainer and magician Hey Presto I'm sorry to say couldn't perform a double lift let alone an actual performance. If you want to improve go to Taylors Magic Shop. |

Hi,
I have bought some stuff from Taylors in the past but I find that there are a lot of bargains on Ebay for dvds even when you take into account the exchange rate and shipping cost. Dave Icentertainment, I was just wondering what year did Jay Sankey and Greg Wilson come out to lecture in Australia? I wish I could have seen them but am fairly new to magic and must have missed them. Dave |

Bernards is also in Melbourne, but I haven't been in there because I get what I need at the Magic Store. |
