Can someone tell me the name of the effect where the spectator's lines on their hand apparently move around? Or the creator? Peter Turner maybe?

You're probably referring to Luke Jermay. I think that was in either Skullduggery or The 7 Deceptions (Leaning toward the latter but can't reference currently)

I believe the effect can be accomplished with a hypnowheel. I don't think anyone owns that demonstration? Chris's suggestion is also available and worth consideration. But the effect is called "Twisted Palm"

Hypnowheels will do that, yes. As will anything that moves steadily (like a stream). Commonly referred to as "the Tetris Effect".

In my personal opinion anyone who tries to pass off a "hypno wheel" as a real demonstration of hypnosis is only fooling themselves. On top of that, it will likely hurt their credibility.

Benjamin Earl also uses a bit of the same principle as Luke Jermay in "Skin" - but it should be noted that none of these applications are actually hypnosis.

Just to be clear I didn't advocate using the hypnowheel. I said I believe the illusion could be accomplished with it's use. There may be people interested in what the wheel was used for and even introduce in an act of sudo hypnosis. The notion that the hypnotist must do all his or her demonstration by mere inductions, limits greatly the tools at our disposal. It's like saying that a mentalist can only do reading and divination type effects because that the only thing real in mentalism. it's a daft way of thinking. Take advantage of all you can and remember it's just show business. What matters is what the audience thinks not the so called experts on the board or forum.

No need for straw man fallacies here.

I've never said that all hypnotists must work via induction. In fact I've said in several places that inductions are not remotely necessary and I believe their primary value is often theatrical in nature - it makes a good show.

Further, your comments regarding mentalism are misguided at best, or a blatant attempt to deflect the point of this conversation at worst. Not only is it totally irrelevant to this conversation, it's completely incorrect. There are tons of skills that fall under both the categories of "mentalism" and "real".

However, this is specifically the hypnosis section, so I pointed out that the things being discussed are not, in fact, hypnosis. Whether the audience understands it or not, I do believe there is value in having an accurate understanding of one wishes to do on stage and how it will work. Being intimately familiar with one's work is how one avoids embarrassing moments and gives a greater chance of approaching genuine artistry.

You defiantly missed my point completely. No matter as my comments were meant for MagieFraudster.

I don't want to get into the hypnotic discussion/battle going on here so I'll stick to the original question.

I believe the original questions stems from Luke Jermay's Twisted Palm effect. I've done it since it first came out and have a very high hit rate. I've discussed it with others that have tried it and they've had a very small hit rate so they stayed away from it.

I sent my additions to Luke and a few others because I believed that is what was getting me a higher hit rate. Having said that, I don't think this is an effect you can do on its own. You have to already establish yourself as someone who can do weird or impossible things.

Indeed. Much of Jermay's material is character driven like that, and thus it fails for many people who don't understand that aspect of it. Same goes for work by Jerome Finley, Aaron Alexander (less so for him), Bill Montana, and a few others who's work I have enjoyed over the years.

Absolutely. You shouldn't do this as your one effect... or even after a minor effect. I see this more as something I've done after a few demonstrations and mostly as an impromptu thing once they feel I can do strange things. I was shocked the first time I did it because it had the kind of reaction you get when you do a palm read: Suddenly everyone else wants it done to them. I didn't expect that. And, further, I was shocked on how many people I got it to work on, one right after the other.

I later realized my hit rate was high due to an accidental physical thing I was doing that increase what they were seeing... but it was an accident... although I'm glad I realized later so I could repeat the same actions.

Greg your improvement is a great addition to the original effect. Not only would the participant your working for see the changes but so to would any spectator who were to witness the effect. You could even present it as a demonstration of mass hypnosis? Thank you for sharing it with me.
