Received an email from Dee Christopher about this new Lewis Le Val product:
The Message is one of my favourite new peeks; developed by Lewis Lé Val (Star of Discovery’s Mind Control Freaks), this incredible billet peek uses one card, one pen and is completely impromptu - No switches, no difficult moves, no unjustified motions. The Message is an evolution of a very old routine which previously was only possible with the use of stooges in the audience, while performed on stage. Lé Val’s approach has completely reinvented this forgotten act and makes it possible in every environment; both the close up mentalist and the stage mentalist will find value here. Taught over the course of a short 15 minute video tutorial, this simple and versatile technique will give you a peek of information in a folded billet, while the spectators see a clearly folded billet held at fingertips at the very moment the peek is made. Strong, Simple, Versatile. The Message is a routine that every mentalist should learn and consider for their act in both professional and casual situations. I am a major fan of this brilliant technique and can’t wait to use it more myself, seeing Lé Val kill with it on set while shooting our new TV show last week was all the encouragement I needed. Order now, download instantly. Can anybody offer any feedback about this? What does the presentation look like? Are there angle considerations? No too expensive, but I'd like to know a little more about it.

The Message is great, a really clever little technique! Quite unique as well, it’s based on an old Annemann technique from the Jinx which used a stooge, Lewis took the basic idea and reworked it to make it possible for the walkaround performer.
Lé Val was over here shooting a new show with me, so we decided to film the little download in our down time. It’s very no frills, we didn’t have the time to do any live performances as it was a crazy few days, but he teaches everything you need to know to perform it in 15 mins from multiple angles. It was originally just going to be a little release for my mailing list subscribers, so it probably won’t be around for long to keep it quiet, but if you like the sound of it, it’s here: https://deechristopher.rocks/collections......s-le-val I’m sending 100% of the profits directly to Lewis as it’s just a small thing, he might put it up on his site when it disappears from mine, or maybe we’ll end up reshooting it for a Penguin download in the future if people are into it!

Oh, to answer the original questions. The presentation is simple, you hand someone a card and a pen, they write something and fold the card up, they hand it to you, you hold it at your fingertips, still folded and can reveal the information. I’ve left out one little bit of information, but that’s how it looks and how it will be remembered.
Regards angles, you just don’t want someone directly behind you, when you learn the method, you’ll understand why, but it’s pretty flexible! Hope that helps!

Okay I took the plunge.
Although I have liked most of Lewis' material in the past, this one I am not crazy about. It is relatively simple and does what it says, but here's my issue: Though the method is completely different, this does basically the same thing as Acidus Novus. You have a quarter folded business card, you hold it briefly, and then you can reveal it. However, AN is IMO much better for a number of reasons. AN is simple and direct and you get an easy, complete p*** of the info. The Message requires it first to be behind your back, then brought forward, then passed from hand to hand twice. I don't want to venture into exposure here, but for me it has a lot more going on than AN, while having no advantages that I can think of. IMO it's just not as clean. Also, there are several parts where you have to mind your angles and be conscious of your audience catching a glimpse of something whereas with AN it's just a simple one and done. For me, AN or a simple switch and read is just going to be cleaner, easier, and more direct.

Last Laugh, thanks for the honest thoughts - AN is a classic for a reason, it’s a brilliant technique. I happily use both techniques!
The main advantage I see with The Message is that you can have them write across the middle of the card, rather than the position in which the writing has to be for AN; the writing can be bigger in that position, you’d be surprised how large the writing can be, while still remaining ‘invisible’. I’ve never had a problem with AN, but this could be a nice alternative for those with imperfect vision that finds the AN peek a little difficult to see. I also like the presentation and choreography of Lewis’ peek; it’s lovely and very fluid, especially if you’re into psychometry like I am! That choreography could easily be applied to AN or bubble peeks or anything else like that, so there is value there too. Personally, I like to learn every peek I can to keep things varied. We all know that the technique doesn’t really matter and it’s all about the presentation and what you’re trying to present to your audience, but it’s also fun to jam different ways of getting info - Jerome had a brilliant ebook called “Subliminal Peeks” (or something similar) which I really enjoyed, mainly the testing of different techniques in performance as it kept things interesting for me - some times word/name reveals can feel a little ‘samey’ when you do it 50+ times during an evening! Haha!

Last Laugh, thanks for taking the plunge. After learning AN, I have spent untold sums learning other peeks and buying wallets. I wish I stopped after getting Millard's AN multi media CD. Also bought Millard's AG, but strongly prefer AN. Everyone of course has their own opinions and preferences, and rightfully so. But for me, its really hard to top AN.

I really liked it--it's such an interesting method of using choreography. This is essentially based on the concept of bringing the information to your line of sight, but choreographed out into justifiable beats. I actually took the choreography and re-worked it a little bit so there is less "looking at the billet."
the really great thing about this peek is that you and the audience can both be looking at the billet at the same time, except you see the information and they don't. It's bold in concept, but deceptive in practice. It's supplemental to our peek arsenal, not a replacement for the AN--but I like this a LOT more than center tearing. More please.
