I have a jumbo coin I got off penguin magic. Its presumably made out of zinc. Although when I got the coin it was shiny, it quickly started turning dark gray/black. This of course isn't too great when you're going for the illusion of your small coin going to a big coin.
Is there any way magicians deal with this without trying to buy a pure silver one or something? I can scrub the patina off, but it quickly goes back. Im not sure if any kind of polish would help, or if I should clear coat it or something. I just want to know if anyone has tips on how to deal with this, or can point me in the direction of a better quality but not super expensive jumbo coin. |

Could clear coat it - once I took a couple inches of the "tin" tape(?)for ech side, it molded around the coin pretty well and kept shinny, it may work-just an idea.

Yes clear coat will do the job - as would a coat of clear nail polish. If you are just using one then a decent clear coat will be fine (it will be pretty shiny and not look completely 'natural') - a hobby clear lacquer should be fine, and I'd go spray on for a much nicer finish..
