Hi Funsway!
Yes, thanks! And, I'm "trying" for the fourth di;mension! The "real" reason I'm categorizing is to make it easier for my heirs to sell the props and books when I get the season booking on the "big" circuit! Bill Hegbli made a good point about filing instructions awhile back. I've always kept them in those little portable file boxes. One box for each category. Now, I'm putting a dupe inst. with each prop that I have left. Bill pointed out that others might not know 'what goes with what'. I remember helping a widow whose husband apparently threw away instruction sheets once he had read them! What a mess!!! --and worse than that (!!!) even the props were scattered all over the basement. No prop that had two or more 'pieces', had the pieces together. OY! Also, if the inst. are filed appropriately, when someone on the Café needs one, I often can help. If they were just stuffed in a box, it would take a week to locate! I'm not a cardician, so ALL card trick instructions are just lumped together! (Don't tell Jon Racherbaumer! He would kill me! This @#$% Ovette rope bit, is driving me crazy! (I didn't have far to go!)! On the road,I would occasionally stop at a truck stop for a quick lunch or supper. (No dishes to wash in the motor home!!!) When the waitress would ask, "Dessert"? I would answer, "Yes, I'll have Baked Alaska! (or Cherries Jubilee!) It always got a laugh! Regarding unpredictability, YES! I'm a great believer in "O. Henry" finishes. My 20th C Silks is next to closing in the elementary school show, and it never misses. Lots of fun and "build up", and then WHAM! For the high schools, the closer is the Tip Cee Bottle (Hydrostatic) It's a slow build up with "scientific" patter, then SPLASH! It gets a hekkuva laugh--and a big mitt. Yes, also (Affect as well as Effect). I not only want to "leave 'em wanting more", I also want to Affect their thinking--mainly about magic and how they perceive it. Hey! we still didn't decide where Ovette Knot(s) go!!!

Hello Slyhand!
Where in Virginis do you reside? I spent four years in No'folk ('51--'55). The old EdMar Magic Shop was my home away from home. Chuck Windley is still there, and also Sonny Narvaez (Anatole)so, I keep in touch with the Old Dpominion. I've lectured for the guys in Richmond, and Norfolk. My old friend, the late Hersy Basham (Lynchburg) always made me welcome in the 'deep south'! I must agree with your "assessment" of Fitzkee's list. Some effects--like Ovette's Repeat Knots just don't fit anywhere. I think though, after yours and Funsway's comments, that I've found a solution! I'll make 3 copies and file them in Penetration, Restoration, and Physical Anomaly!!!!!!!! I appreciate your objective contribution! Yeah, I'm pretty sure Fitzkee's is a largely accepted list. Can't recall if Tarbell goes into it much. While not elegantly denoted, list-style.... the 'Essentials of Magic' DVD set is pretty good too.
His face isn't really this long in-person!
