Hey Yall,
Just received an appointment to chat with a wine bar owner about performing magic at their restaurant. This is my first time I've had a chance to meet with an owner. What should I expect so I can try to come out with a win? Thanks for your help! Slightly nervous about this. |

Congratulations Chris. You'll do fine. Just be your self and show confidence. If you have time read the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People". Its a great read and teaches you how to communicate

Some standard questions they might ask...
How much do you charge? Will this interfere with servers tips? How long have you been doing magic? Is magic all you do for a living? Do you work at any other area restaurants? Why do you want to do magic here? What do you have to offer my establishment / why should I hire you? When do you want to perform here? Can you just come once a month? BUT! They might not ask many questions because they might not have any experience hiring a magician so it's a good idea to go there prepared to sell yourself. Be friendly and make good eye contact. Treat it as a performance, because it is. Be yourself, but be the best version of you. Take control of the interview by having a pitch ready and be ready to politely counter objections. Think of all the reasons you should be there and tell them with a smile. You'll do great! Tell us how it goes.

They might want to see a sample of your work.
come prepared and chose something simple, quick with very little "patter". don't do anything that's going to make you seem like a "cheeeeeeeeeezy magician".

Be personable, respectful, relax, have fun. Let us know how it goes.

It went great going back for a trial on a happy hour to work the crowd. If all goes well I'll have 2 jobs at this place. A walk-around gig and a parlor gig in the middle of a wine tasting. It would be 1st half, show, 2nd half. I'm beyond excited if all goes well

Haven't done it yet. Trying to find a time that works with my work schedule and a time that's busy at the bar so I can actually showcase what I can do.
However I did have two gigs over the weekend which went well. One was a close up gig, and I learned a lot in that hour haha. Nothing major but adjustments to be made next time. Like I only needed 6 tricks the entire time. Alternated each set of 3 |
