Kaufman's Coin Magic has been heralded as one of the best books on coin magic by people at the Café. However, I rarely see Card Magic mentioned. Why is it not as popular? I don't own it and was wondering if people have any thoughts on it.

I have it. There is a lot of fairly difficult material in it which may not have a desirable effort/effect ratio to most. I would not recommend it except for die heart coin workers.

I agree with Larry. It does have a lot of difficult material. You can practice a lot and get them down though. I have a lot of Allan Ackerman's lecture notes and I use to use them alot. Mainly I do big illusions now though.

I agree, and I'd like to add that a much smaller sub-set of the class of "die-hard card workers" would love this book - namely, die-hard card-workers who love Shakespeare and a satirical approach to magic literature. Personally, I love this book, but I readily admit that it is not for every card worker, maybe even most card workers.

Thanks Matt for the correction. I must have been having a brain cloud.
The book is well written and illustrated but I can't say I have ever performed any effects from it. If any die-hard coin worker read it, it will validate their choice to stay with coins for good. |
