Picked up a couple of what appeared to be vintage Bee decks. They were in dusty condition, like they had been on the shelf over a dozen years - but they seem a bit strange - some parts of it look genuine, but the overall feel seems a bit boxy, and it has a gold seal, misconnected. However, the green sticker is actually underneath the clear wrap, so someone would have gone through a lot of trouble to add this touch. Here are some images

Those aren't USPCC Bee cards, they're Chinese clones.

The Connell Brothers sticker pretty much gives them away, along with some of the fonts used in printing the box.
But what REALLY puts the icing on the cake is when you open the box up and try to handle the cards ... whereupon you realize that the finish on each card is somewhat akin to shiny, dried glue.

A few decks make for an interesting collectable if you're into playing cards.

Bill,

I would do agree with Mr Bones that these are not authentic Bee cards because I have what you have at home. Completely bad experience.

Inasmuch as we are writing about decks manufactured in China, this may prove to be of interest.

On a recent trip to Laughlin, NV (about 100 miles south of Las Vegas and located on the Colorado River which separates Arizona and Nevada) I stopped into a Family Dollar store on Needles highway for some supplies. Browsing through the store I came across a card display of Bicycle playing cards and also some Classic playing cards. Since the Classic playing cards were only $1.00 a deck, I decided to try them out.

Interestingly these cards are a product of Cartamundi, USA located in Dallas Texas, but manufactured in China. These are poker sized cards with white borders, and come in red and blue backs. They are paper cards with a plastic type coating and handle very nicely. I tried a myriad of card moves with this deck and liked the feel - halfway between a paper deck and a plastic deck. Since Bicycle playing cards keep getting more expensive, for those who are cost conscious these plastic-coated cards may be of interest.

Here is the Cartamundi website: www.cartamundiusa.com which show their entire product line. They produce playing cards in Classic, Blackjack, Private label and plastics, in addition to other products.

THese decks were included with poker chip sets during the poker boom around 2002 -2003.... I believe these cards are actually marked as well(edge)... I sent amcd a couple of these decks a while back but I'm not sure if he ever inspected them...

Ahhhh, now that iamslow points out that they might be marked as well, I believe I can recall finding something to do with marking when I first picked up my decks.
I shall have a look when I get home from work.

These are completely crummy cards ... but as noted above, they make interesting collectibles.

Just to clarify - Connell Bros really did have distribution rights to certain USPCC cards in Asia at one time. I have opened several decks of Bee's over the years with those stickers on them that were absolutely genuine. Not all of them are garbage/knock-offs, though most of them may be.
