Hey thar ho thar...
I don't know how many people will find this useful, but I've written up a study guide for newbies to card magic. If you already own Royal Road to Card Magic and Expert Card Technique, then you've got all you need to take advantage of the guide, since everything else is freely available on the internet. And if you don't already own RRTCM and ECT, why the heck not?! That said, here's the link... https://theburnabykid.com/nwmb/2018/01/2......d-magic/ In my mind, it is the absolute best introduction to card magic you could hope for! Unless you want to count all the other ones...

Oh, just a few hours ago I pointed to the old version of your "Annotated RRtCM" but this seems to much better. Thanks for putting much work in this project.

Aw, thanks for the plug of the Annotated Royal Road project. Yeah, I do think this one is better, because it removes all the things I found wrong with Royal Road, and adds a bunch of material that essentially corrects what I thought was wrong, using stuff that's easily accessible on the internet since it's in the public domain. It's my way of trying to bypass the negativity and blow rainbows up people's butts and all that.

@The Burnaby Kid:
I made another post ( pointing to this one) on that thread so people can get the whole story/information. Regards, Markus |

To set the record straight, I don't see my guide as necessarily being a better alternative. In my mind, Giobbi's Card College volumes 1 and 2 represent the finest possible resource for beginners looking to learn card magic. They're simply that good. In fact, there are only two reasons I can see why people would want to hit up my blog instead of going out and getting CC 1 & 2. The first is the fact that my guide is free, although obviously you're at risk of getting what you pay for. The second is the fact that I'm a sexy, sexy man.

I can't comment on Card College for now since I don't own them (yet). But I know other Giobbi material and am very well aware of the praise CC gets. So I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with what you say.
But as you mention, the price of Card College is certainly something that a lot of people, especially beginners will shy from. They will be left with other choices for beginner card material. Besides Lorayne's The Magic Book, The Royal Road is certainly the most recommended book. And it has an attractive price. Now meanwhile we hear all those voices remarking how hard it can be to learn from books. Not necessarily something I'd second but evidently a problem for a lot of people. At the same time we're reminded by the 'elders' that serious students of magic can't grow without reading. But growth and sanity of the magic scene is what those people also want, don't they? Therefore it is resources like your blog, that help people to make progress in magic. And that is only a good thing for everybody. Regarding your stated facts at the end: I don't feel competent enough to judge your sexiness but I know for a fact that the pricetag on your articles is in no way an indicator for the quality/ usefulness of your writing. Cheers, Markus P.S.: Maybe it should be pointed out, that one who wants a taste of Giobbis work can get his wonderful "Introduction to Card Magic" as low as 9.95 as an download. |

Great series of articles. Now if I could find some of these for coins... BTW, that is a very nice blog.

Hey guys. I've fallen somewhat behind on maintaining the blog, so I just wanted to put an updated link to the current state of the project, since the other one gives you a big fat 404.
https://www.theburnabykid.com/JACK Basically, the previous study guide has essentially been spun into a free downloadable book. There are some typos in it that need fixing, and I hope to get on those once things settle in the new year.

Kudos to The Burnaby Kid for making and sharing "The Jolly Almanac of Card Knavery". This is an impressive effort, and looks like a very good resource with some excellent content.
Has anyone checked it out, and are there any reviews and thoughts about it? I'd love to see some feedback. Also, where can I find a link to your "Annotated RRtCM"? |
