Product description: I think a good mat can do a lot for a magician. The way people see him, the way he do magic and what his props tell about him and its personality. A good mat is important, you’ll have a smooth surface, you protect you cards and coins, and it gives credibility and elegance to your routines. My first mats were Gibson ones, they were perfect, the touch, the smell, the color, everything! However, they don’t produce these anymore so I’ve been looking for a good mat maker for a while. A friend of mine took out a folding mat once and I was very intrigued, I had never seen something like this before. I contacted Pattrick and received 3 different mats that I’ll talk about in this review. For me, those are the finest mats I own and potentially the best in the world.

Price and where to buy it: The mats comes in various sizes and different stuff, so the price range is quite big, I recommend you to check Pattrick’s Website: http://www.pattricksmagic.com/pattrick-s......atsHere/

What you get: After my order, I was sent the tracking number by Pattrick, his customer service is incredible. After 7 days of shipping, the parcel arrived at my house, which is quite quick for something to go from the USA to France. The mats were well packed, and they are just perfect ! I ordered 3 differents mats: one Born’s Book Mat, which is a small bifold mat, a worker mat in bifold and a Pro 1 mat in trifold. I’ve received all three very quickly and the quality is excellent. soft enough to pick up coins and cards, the color variety is very good and the folding option is amazing. It’s quite hard to describe what you receive when it’s a mat but I can’t see anyone being disappointed with what they receive. The only downside here is the smell, they smell very strong when you take them out of the parcel but the smell goes away after a few hours. Shipping to France was not that expensive for what it was, but I recommend you to send a mail to Pattrick before doing your order so he can calculate the right shipping cost for you (if you’re living outside the US).

The pros and the cons: Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS:
- I can’t really see a con for this product, you have so many options that you just can’t be disappointed since what you receive is what you ordered.

THE PROS:
- First of all, I’d like to mention once again Pattrick’s customer service! I had a few questions and he was so quick to answer, it’s really good to see somebody which is fully behind his products.
- The mats are really good, the quality is close to what Gibson did, those are perfects.
- The fact you can fold (or not if you don’t want this option) your mat is very good because I can put it in my close up case and not worry about the surface being damaged, and the seam is invisible and you don’t feel it at all when the mat is unfold.
- You can customize your mat in ANY size you want, you have a lot of choice for the colors, material, folding option (no fold, bifold, trifold) and you can even put your own logo on it, Pattrick is literally the mat god!
- I do think such mats will add a lot to your performance style and routines, it’s a 100 times better to do magic on a good surface.
- I have the PLUSH material, which is really smooth and soft, and works best for folding mat. But if you don’t want the folding option, you can also go for the spectrum finish, it’s really cool.

Overall rating: Guys, those are the best mats I’ve seen and Pattrick is probably the best mat maker in the world today. If you want a quality product which will last you a long time, that you’re happy to perform with, do yourself a treat and order a mat from Pattrick, I can’t recommend them enough, 4/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, this does not apply here, 0/5 stars.

Similar products: Gibson mats were good but no longer produced, Pattrick is now THE man when it comes to quality mats.

Great service, great mats, decent prices. I have four of them and picked up the most recent two at Magic Live. Looked like he sold a ton of them too. If you are practicing or performing on one of those $1 mats that are as thin as a piece of paper, you are cheating yourself.

And to be clear, the folding mats are just a specific type he sells. There are many options, but the folding mat is nice (I bought one).

I have 2 Folding mats (1 of each size), 2 Circular mats, a Boomerang mat, a Casino 1 mat and a Casino 2 mat.

I wouldn't use anything else- they're the best!

The Folding mats (10" x 7" and 8" x 7" open) fit into my cargo pants pockets and are great to take with you wherever you go.

The Boomerang mat is my largest and favorite- excellent for a card spread.

I like the Spectrum finish on my large mats, but the Plush finish is the only option on the folding mats.

If you don't know Pattrick's mats, you're missing out!

And yes, there are 2 "T's" in Pattrick.

Pattrick and his mats certainly need nothing more said about them!

...But allow me to anyway! His customer service, selection and quality are by far the top of the charts! Smile

For all 3 of my Pattricks Mats, the middle sponge layer disintegrated!

Has any one else experienced this?

A disintegrating sponge layer sounds like it's coming in contact with some type of chemical.

I've had mine for various amounts of time, but my oldest is about 6 to 8 years old, and it's still as nice as the day that I got it.

I bought mine in 2012, but they were spoilt end of 2015.
The mats are usually left on the table.

I should have photo's somewhere. I'll post if I can.

The middle foam sponge layer like became powder like, and I'm left with the top fabric later that became separated and the bottom rubber layer.
Maybe something in the air that caused it.

Have you ever rolled up the mat to take to a gig or a meeting? I had a mat (not one by Patrick) seperate just like that because I rolled it the wrong way. That is exactly how mine looked. Patrick, and others, provide "proper rolling" (when absolutely necessary) instructions. Mine was a cheap mat I picked up at a magic shop for about $10. I have since bought much higher quality mats and only roll then if I "have to" and then, only as directed.

This is the small mat. So, not rolling.

Have the problem mats ever been cleaned or washed?

I would ask Pattrick which polymer is used as the basis of the foam layer. Then you can research what conditions, chemicals, or environmental factors are known to affect the polymer.

Do your mats see a lot of sunlight? Smoke? Are aerosol sprays or air-fresheners used regularly near the mats? Is the mat in an air-condition room in the hot months of the year? Is there exposure to chemical agents from businesses or vehicles due to your location? etc.

Yin Howe, I just happened to be browsing the Café and clicked on this topic and saw these posts. I find it interesting that all of your mats have the same problem, which I have not ever seen before in all my mat making years. I have had a few magicians who wore their mats out in a certain spot form so much shuffling in the same area. Three years of heavy use could do it as well. I see form the picture you have a Red Lava mat ( this top fabric is now out of production from my supplier) What are the other size mats? If the size and weight are not over .9 KG I will replace your mats if you handle the shipping ( $24.00 USD)
Funny, I just saw you on Facebook before I went to the Magic Café.
Please send all correspondence to my e mail pattrick@pattricksmagic.com as this post would get pretty busy.
Any good comments here is appreciated though.
We are also introducing a servante mat that is a one piece combo. Soon to be on the website www.pattricksmagic.com
Thank You. Pattrick
