Hi, just thought I would pick the communities brain on a type of routine I'm very fond of.

An example would be Kenton's KK , or Derrens effect in pure effect where an imaginary selection of cards is whittled down to just one. The one on the table.

Another example I haven't seen for sale or in print would be asking some one to flip an imaginary coin five times in a row and you have the heads tails combo already predicted in an envelope or such.(I know some of you are thinking NW here but I'm not very fond of them.)

You see what I'm driving at, they all involve imaginary coins or cards or whatnot.

If anyone can point me to routine's for sale or perhaps a book they know of which contains stuff that fits the bill, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Peter, there is a ton of material similar to what you are looking for.

You could look into the naked mentalism series by Jon Thompson. Ever Elizade has an effect manoeda coins I think it is called.

There is an effect called TAC that kinda meets you requirement of it being in their head
I've some stuff that I use myself too.

If I think of any more I'll let you know,

Regards,

Séamus

Docc Hilford has work on the subject on one of his Monster Mentalism DVDs but I'm not sure which one. The effect has something to do with dreams and nightmares.

There's an old mathematical "think of a card" effect. I can't remember where I first read about it, but it's in "Easy Magic" by Karl Fulves (ridiculously cheap and highly recommended).

There is an Andrew Gerard effect with invisible coins that was quite good. Sadly, I cannot remember the name of the routine or where it is published. This is not street cents though. His “Pure” effect in “Compianage” is good as well.

In general, invisible (read: “minds only) routines that are reliable and not procedural are jewels to be found.

Ion man on Move Zero Vol 1 is a quick and fun effect using imaginary coins. I often follow that up with a Karl Hein effect he teaches on his At the Table lecture, though this effect uses real coins.

I did a little more research and found it on Monster Mentalism - Volume 2. It's the first effect and called Nightmare Coin. The ad copy at Penguin http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S10763 says that it comes " From the acclaimed book, Band of the Hand, comes a chilling routine that turns a spectator's ethereal dream into a solid, spendable nightmare!" From what I remember Docc jokes about how it's "a lot of story for a little trick"

I've used it late at night before bedtime with friends and it made a good impression.

Yaniv Deautsch was kind enough to email me that the invisible coin routine of Andrew Gerard is found in Banachek’s PS3. It is called “Ultimate Imagination”.

Reading this kind of description is quite a bit frustrating. Docc's Monster Mentalism ad copies are way too cryptic.
Can you please share more details about the routine? What is the actual effect?

If you use this place's advance search/exact phrase and use the title there's lots of information and discussions about it.

Hi Peter,

Take a look at Isolation by Michael Murray that's a fantastic technique or set of techniques to reveal a playing card.

Peter Turner has a which hand routine with an invisible coin on Freeform Mentalism. There's also the Banachek routine 'Invisible Palm Top' from Psi Series disc 2.
