Hi
I have been looking for a piece of Stage magic which can lead in to a lot of humour. Does anyone do Cuff Links? Owners please comment. Thanks And oh.. is there anywhere I can watch a video of someone perform it? |

Harry did it on a couple of performances you can find on video. Try his videotapes. It's usually performed as part of the Buffalo Bill routine...or you can just check his book...it's still available. Or just ask Harry himself.

I have cufflinks and have reworked it with my own presentation. Although I no longer perform this routine, I still think it can be very strong and occasionally work in small bits of it in other routines.

I love Harry. My idol. I have Cufflinks but don't be expecting the quality of props you see in Hello Sucker. The hand you get is really cheap and flimsy and won't stay in the handcuff without some arts and crafts work from you. Also the locking Himber is nowhere near as nice as the one he uses. Not big deals but things to think about.

I actually had to send my original back due to the craftsmanship. The cuffs were not gimmicked well and eventually, even after getting the replacement, I made my own to use.

A big thanks to all of you who replied. Does anyone know where I can get the original so I don't have to rework on the construction of the gimmicks? The presentation is fine. I have an idea wherein I am gonna do magic by reading on the spot from a book and at one point everything is on fire including the book. I just need quality equipment which is reliable and not hands that fall off. Thanks in advance.
Also Christopher you mentioned that you had to send your original back. Did you get it from Hank Lee? And for Niva: Pls check magicfact.com and search for CUFF LINKS. It is a great routine |

Harry Anderson's routine is in his book, "Wise Guy" from Mike Caveney, published by Mike's company 'Magicial Publications'. Many of Anderson's routines are published in this work.
By original, I believe emyers99, was refering to Harry's equipment, not another manufacturer's product. So in other words if you want quality equipment, you have to make it yourself. Hank Lee's is the only dealer I have seen that carries this equipment. Fire books come and go, just make sure you do not get an electronic one. Steven's Magic had some good Fire Books. Go to http://www.stevensmagic.com email Mark Stevens to see if they have any available. By the way, Fire Books cannot be read from so you will have to make it look like you are reading from the same book that catches on fire. Good Luck! |

I got mine from Hank Lee so I'm guessing there's no one that carries a version that includes Harry's props. Call Harry and see if he sells it.

Hocus Pocus carries cufflinks. This is where I buy everything now thanks to their great service. Originally though, I bought it from L & L if I remember correctly. It really doesn't matter where you order it from the props are the same. Unless perhaps you go directly through Harry Anderson at Spade & Archer.

For the price of Cuff Links through a magic shop, I would buy your own props after reading through Harry's routine in the book.
I bought it years ago, sold it, and made my own. Have since stopped doing the routine unless it is for a repeat performance. My honest opinion but like it was mentioned above, the hand stinks, the cuffs are cheap and the wallet sucks. Michael |

You can't buy anything from Spade and Archer, since it doesn't exist anymore, but you CAN buy "Cufflinks" from Harry's shop Sideshow! There's an interesting story about the effect when it was originally supposed to be released, which is actually about a year before it was finally released. Anybody wants to know, ask me. I heard about the incident from the company who was releasing it, but eventually ended up discussing it with Harry himself, and he didn't think it was as funny as I did.

Does anyone have the new version manufactured by Hocus-Pocus? If so, any comments?

You're actually better off just buying the book and making your own set. Really. This is how Barry Schor (formerly of Sun Magic, the people who made, sold and marketed almost all of Harry's items) told me to go about getting one with my own specification. Manufacturing the cuffs is not difficult, and very inexpensive. You have have exactly what you need (a set and a half of cuffs) for less than $10.

I don't know if Barry Schor made the former version of Cuff Links, but from what I have heard (and testified to in this thread) it was pure junk. This was the main reason Hocus-Pocus got the permission from Anderson to re-manufacture the props for the trick. I ordered the effect which should come tomorrow. I will add my thoughts then.

Sun Magic in Arizona did make the original run, and as Barry told me, TWO boxes of the cuffs were stolen from a warehouse. Can you imagine the look on the thief's face when he realized what he stole? It took 'em another couple months to make up enough to put 'em on sale again. Of course, this was back in about 1989...The ones I made work perfectly and look great, and, as mentioned, the cuffs (wallet was more of course) cost me less than $10 to make.

Received Cuff Links a few days ago. The props are high quality, wallets, cuff links and fake hand. I concur with the post above that Hocus Pocus has great customer service. They will be getting more of my business.
You need to be able to do a bill switch for this routine. Instructions are not included. Two TTs are included with the props (two sizes). |
