Mike, history counts. The innovators for the most part are and were workers, with their innovations ripped off by capitalists.

The lovely filth down here was brought on by the unlovely feudal lords and later by the uninvited unlovely capitalist colonialists (undocumented immigrants anyone?) who exploited the world's resources and polluted the air, land, and water.

We could do far worse than anarchosyndicalism.

Oh wait. We are.

Edison, Ford, Watson were all ripped off by capitalists? If you want a 21st century standard of living, you have to put up with some consequences. All those evil men gave you modern medicine, education, freedom to do more than anyone, anywhere in history. It's a trade off. Of course we could go with socialism and only be left with unimaginable human suffering, ecological devastation and shorter life spans.

San Francisco's air quality is presently three times worse than just about anywhere else on Earth, and you want to talk about ecological devastation?

The capitalist countries have been waging non-stop war for pretty much a century now, and you want to talk about unimaginable human suffering?

A 21st century standard of living? What does that mean? Where the few have gold-plated toilets while the many barely have healthcare?

Edison, Ford, and Watson were famously cutthroat businessmen as well as inventors. There are on the other hand many many inventors and scientists whose names will never be known by the public for their contributions because their companies lay claim to the patents and copyrights.

They could improve the air quality if they started wearing flowers in their hair again.

As Henry Ford implemented his assembly lines to build his cars at the turn of the century, he raised daily wages to $5, almost double the going rate for the day. He also made the work day 8 hours instead of 9, as others were scheduling. Granted the reduction in hours was more to make it easier for him to schedule 3 shifts in a day rather than being kind to the workers....still it gave the impression.

Yes, very true. That was good. Raising the wage somehow didn't destroy the economy.
He also had his goons viciously beat up workers who tried to unionize. Not so good.

OK so capitalism is responsible for fires, check. No fires under socialism.
Wars are a capitalist thing, check. The fact that there are fewer wars now than anytime in history doesn't count.
Ford, Watson and Carnegie et al were good businessmen, check. Also they gave away huge parts of their wealth for the common good doesn't matter.
21st century standard of living is gold toilets for the 1%. Modern medicine, lower infant mortality, sanitation, welfare, food stamps, stable government, freedom of speech don't count either.

If you are employed by a company to invent, given the resources you need to invent, then the product belongs to the company. It's pretty simple really. Everyone in that position knows that. If I hire someone to clean my house and they lift the rug and find $500, I think it still belongs to me. As a capitalist, I'd give them a tip though.

You're right. That capitalism thing has just about ruined us. Who doesn't miss the gulags, bread lines, forced sterilization, famine and pollution?

Japanese American Internment camps, Native American reservations, Stertilzarion of natives and people of color, lines for gas in the ‘70’s, 1 in 6 Americans currently “food insecure” (new catch phrase for going hungry), and new degregilation in Air standards (especially with coal power plants) will lead to an estimated 1,400 more dead a year.

I'm sure that this is a word.

I'm not so sure in what language.
