Gemini Artifacts recently came out with "Poe Vision Cube," a version of the classic Color Vision cube with a Poe theme; six symbols reminiscent of Poe stories and poems (like raven, cat, heart) take the place of the colors. Some performers may write off such a prop as a child's trick, but performers like Doc Hilford have demonstrated that one can perform apparent miracles with such a simple prop.

One reason the old Color Vision cube is a winner in the right hands is because the performer never needs to look directly at the cube; one can easily detect the color in one's peripheral vision. The Poe cube might not permit peripheral detection. The performer might have to look at it directly, however briefly, on an offbeat.

The Poe prop is, however, outstanding--well crafted, apparently durable, looks and feels vintage. The prop's "home" is an off-white burlap bag that nicely cinches at the top. A useful set of brief instructions by Marc Charisse is included.

Just in time for Halloween!

I've seen a few mentalists and such use these devices and they play well, I'm just wary as technology becomes more commonplace that audiences will soon not be amazed. Similar tech is used in escape rooms all over the world now.

The Poe Cube, like the traditional Color Vision cube, is NOT dependent on ANY advanced technology. One must learn a couple moves, but that it is. It is all about the premie and the performance. (Yes, there are now high-tech electronic versions, but they are not necessary and are not "better.")

I have one of the Poe Cubes and I love it! Very well made and, as George said, it has a vintage look and feel that goes with the Poe theme. Highly recommended - great job by Marc and excellent customer service by Vic at Gemini!

All of Marc Charisse's reworkings of this classic prop, are stellar. Many creators have offered beautiful executions of the original Color Vision, but no one, to my knowledge, took the concept and workings of the prop to another level like Marc has. He grasped the potential of this simple box, and literally "thinking out of the box," proved the idea could evolve.

I own all of Marc's Color Vision renditions, as I consider each and every one a special (and affordable), magic gem. As a kid, I remember amazing my friends and family with the Adam's Color Vision. I finally have the adult interpretation.

Thank you all for your kind words, and especially OZ, whom I've never met, but whose early enthusiasm and support for my work are a big part of the reason I do this. I certainly can't make a living this way, but making something someone else will use to bring mystery and joy to others is truly priceless to me.

I too remember the Color Vision that came with an early magic set, and it was one of my favorites to perform and it fools. Now I have a beautiful version that fits my Poe Show. Marc is quite a craftsman. In his instructions, he offers a great tip on beginning the routine prior to actually knowing, that I used with color vision, and it is an idea that I hope others do not gloss over.

I have a switch book Marc created for my presentation of Inferno, and another of his switch books especially created for my Poe Show ("the Loves of Edgar Allan Poe," in my book Poe Pourri), and his material is well made. All are available from Gemini Artifacts, a trusted name in our world.

Long story short. I received my Poe Vision Cube, and it is quite simply...wonderful.

Now, out of fairness, Marc kindly mentions me in his instructions for this prop as suggesting a new reveal and potential ending to this classic premise. And it's true...I did suggest it, and have used it, but honestly can't claim originality to its source. This prop is so ingrained in our magic lore, that who knows what's transpired since its origin. But I do love the aspect of a final reveal, after the endless back-and-forth of the original novelty effect.

That said, this prop is delightful. Marc is on his game and this cube is, I think, his best ever...and that says a lot...because his past cubes were also his best ever. But this project shows a lot of inspired growth in the artwork researching and production, construction, and routining. I would say what impressed me the most were the details of the secondary reveal that he kindly credits me for. The clues for the performer are clearer on this version than any before. You are handed the code.

As I have stated before with every version of Marc's approach of this classic magic premise...he beats expectations...every time. This one, for me, is just the best getting better. It's quite close to perfect.
