Good. Glad you found it. It is a good book but why was this posted in the bizarre section?

It is a splendid book. It will be in demand seven years from now.
It is in the fairly small category of books that probably have no predictable expiration date. George |

It is a splendid book indeed but is neither spooky nor bizzare. Perhaps these posts are misplaced. For those who do have this book and would like something older to add to their collection, might I recommend "Magic and Showmanship" by Henning Nelms.

In my opinion, Tales of Enchantment is one of the essential defining works of mystery entertainment; it need not be "spooky" or "bizarre" to fit in the category of "Mysterious." I have always appreciated that this forum is a welcoming community of those who appreciate storytelling magic that is meaningful, which is, in my opinion, the best catch-all definition for the kind of thing that those who frequent this forum are interested in: story magic with meaning, regardless of subject matter. It could easily be renamed "Meaningful Theatrical Magic and Mentalism." Based on my reading, the Bizarre *category* has always been broad and defies easy description, a phenomenon that has merited numerous essays, articles and posts within the Bizarre community since the 1970s, all attempting to answer the question, "What is 'Bizarre Magic.'" I don't think there's a better forum to post it in, except possibly Once Upon a Time. Please understand, I'm not trying to be snarky, but at this point, it seems the term "bizarre" has really become outdated to describe Meaningful/Theatrical Mystery Entertainment. It always needs explanation and clarification to newcomers, which is unfortunate. Tales of Enchantment is, in fact, the book that was my introduction to storytelling and bizarre magic, and the wider category of Mystery Entertainment. I think in many ways, it served to broaden and enrich the field of storytelling mystery theater since its themes are not limited to spooky/bizarre/dark presentations. It's great that this is available again.

Hello! “Bizarre” is a house with many rooms. There are some very dark, foreboding, and spooky pieces in my book. I’ve been steeped in “heavy” Bizarre and “lite” Bizarre for decades.
“Tales of Enchantment: The Art of Magic” was written to enthuse and inspire the Magical Storyteller and Bizarrist ...with theory and stagecraft that apply to both, and provide further thought and practical material for the seasoned performer. Here is a link to the book: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/5214 ...And also a very recent review (thanks to G. H.) “I bought and read Tales of Enchantment several years ago, and learned more with a recent second reading than before. I was now ready for it. A narrative approach to some of your magic is a great way to engage and move audiences, and if you are a story teller (or want to be), this book is indispensable. Walt shows us how to engage people's imaginations, help them suspend disbelief, and even catalyze "transcendent feeling" within a performance. This is the author's approach to Magic Theater. Walt shows how to magnify traditional magic effects, like the Linking Rings, or the Haunted Key, or the Egg Bag, or Miser's Dream, and many others by supporting the effect with a story, or even a poem. You may not actually copy his script for any effect, but you will learn how to craft your own. This splendid text was ahead of its time. If it came out now, it would attract a stampede.” |

Brother Walt is a performer that truly lives his persona's from the proper costume to the tone of the show, atmosphere and of course selection of material (in short he does it right) , it has been my pleasure to know him for many years and his work is always a treasure, his book is a labor of love, so grab it while you can.

As well as being available from some of the best Magic Shops in the USA….
my book is now carried on Amazon.com for the first time! I’m both proud and humbled to say it’s been a bestseller since it was published a dozen years ago. (Magic shops Worldwide can purchase wholesale using their Ingram Content account with their usual terms of sale too!) Thanks everyone for your support in keeping my Magic alive!
