Poof..you are so right.
Video is easier...but books are the foundation. I can re-read a book section in a split second...DVDs? Not so much. I personally like both. When a book and a dvd accompany each other..that is just perfect. |

Ha ha..Magic...read Hemmingway.
Specifically...the Sun also Rises. It changed my life. Giobbi is so educated I am ashamed. Classic European liberal arts education And that's why he is so great |

Ah, I love them all... textbooks, novels, poems, concertos... Some of my favorite textbooks read like novels (specifically, detective stories). The author makes you keep wanting to move on and find out what's going to happen next, makes you *want* to put in the effort...
I wonder where they get their liberal arts education in Europe. Maybe in high school? As far as I know they don't have the equivalent of the kind of place where I teach in the U. S., a small, private liberal arts college. It's paradoxical, because our K-12 education in the U. S. isn't (on average) all that great, and yet we have wonderful colleges and universities. And of course Europeans' knowledge of foreign languages should make us Americans feel embarrassed. I know I do. (Don't know what it's like in Canada.) Can you imagine teaching sleights, as Giobbi does, in a language that isn't his native language, with such ease and fluidity? I loved The Sun Also Rises, but I don't remember anything about it. It was The Lord of the Rings that changed my life. Random thoughts late on a Sunday night. Good night, all. |

I have finally finished this amazing set.
In my opinion...this will become a must have classic. He is a virtuoso. It is just inspiring. |

I've watched part -- no time right now to do much. But you're inspiring me, Kevin. Can't wait to have time to watch everything. One thing I really enjoyed was the beginning of the false shuffles disk, in which he talks about a false swing cut from the hands to the table. He mentions that he's changed his mind, and no longer likes the version he taught in CC -- too obvious that *something* is happening. I was really pleased, because I was always uncomfortable myself with the CC version. And I really like what he's replaced it with.

For those of you that have watched some of or all of this dvd set, are there other things that Roberto mentions that he has changed his mind about since he wrote Card College?
I like CC but some of the sleights taught have always seemed a bit off to me. Like the mentioned false cut, but also the chapter on the classic pass, which I find awful. The covers taught for The Classic Pass in CC2 are also horrible. |

Hey thanks loads kSheper and countrymaven. Glad you like it and no worries at all for the babble thing. I can indeed babble, my girlfriend would back this up. Have a great week.

I have not purchased this set yet. Which false cut are you talking about ?
I get a little frustrated from the classic pass description when I read it more than 20 years ago. But as usually, we have to gather informations and knowledge from several sources to be able to learn anything, and to make this knowledge ours. |

I agree with Walmotto, the covers for the classic pass in CC are too obvious and some of them attract undue attention on the deck.

Hi Rachmaninov,
It's vol. 1, p. 58 in in the English translation of CC. I agree with you that it's helpful to have a variety of sources to get different ideas and viewpoints. Bob |
