First time you make a gimmick, it takes a little time to get your process right.
I can now make them in no time at all couple of minutes per gimmick and the finished result its the same thickness as a standard card, no double thickness required. |

I have this and just love it! As for the price, it takes some time to make each gimmick. They take two days to make. If you don't want to make them yourself, the cost of the effect is really in the making of just a few gimmicks. I think the price justifies the time it takes to make each gimmick. They can't be mass produced.
I didn't purchase FACE OFF, because the process of making the gimmick is going to be identical. I am very pleased with this purchase because of the handling. I think that the way Ryan teaches how to reveal them at the end makes the effect that much stronger. This is very powerful, but if you don't reveal them well, it can destroy the entire effect. I am curious about your opinions: Do you think it is better to do this "hamburger" style like Face off, or "Hot Dog" style like Siamese Waltz? KJ |

I’ve only purchased Face Off and the handing for Siamese Waltz looks way more fair to me.

I am just loving this! I haven't read every post in this thread, so, forgive me if I am repeating anything. A few tips to making your own gimmick:
1. You MUST use an un-used deck. If the deck has been used for just a week, you will have many failures. With a new deck, you will have few if any failures. I am halfway through an entire deck with no failures. 2. Split the card so the face is a double layer. Otherwise, the gimmick won't look good. 3. Place two additional pieces of double sided tape into the fold. This helps hold the card down while gluing. 4. Place glue on the back of the face first, then the backs. Otherwise, the backs will begin to curl. 5. I have a card press, which makes this super convenient. I think it's worth it to buy one or make one out of plexiglass and clamps. I have one I bought, but then I removed the screws and use metal clip type clamps. I have been making a few new gimmicks every day and I am filling a card box with the gimmicks and the "other" gimmick. I have performed the way they describe by just including a single gimmick in an ordinary deck, but I haven't performed with this deck full of gimmicks yet. The intent is to use a slightly different method, taking all the cards from the box, spread them, and have them pick any card and the next card. To do this will require two new decks and using half of each deck. The idea is, let's say they pick a four of hearts. Lets say the next card showing is the nine of clubs. Then the gimmick will have the four of hearts on one side and the nine of clubs on the other side. The only drawback that I see is that I will need to replace the used gimmick with those two exact cards from another new deck. Another thought would be to pick a couple, lets say husband and wife, and ask the husband if he trusts his wife. Then, say she is going to be in control of what cards are used. Then, take cards from the top to the bottom and have her say stop at any card, and use the card she picked and the reverse card without them seeing the next card in the deck. This way, I could replace a used gimmick with any new gimmick. One note: If you do make an entire deck of gimmicks, it will look like an old used deck. The edges will not look like a new deck at all. When performing for laypeople, that is not a problem, that is probably what their deck at home looks like. When performing for magicians, then you might want to include patter about this is how you magically give away cards from an old deck instead of throwing them away. I am really enjoying playing with this. KJ. |

I have been performing this for nearly a month with an entire card box full of mostly gimmicks. I have found that I don't need the "other" gimmick when doing it this way. If performing for a male and female couple, I simply turn to the woman and say: "We are going to have you make all the decisions, is that ok?" They always laugh and say "yes". I then turn to him and say: "Sorry... We are going to pick a couple cards, but you don't really care which card is picked, do you?" They always laugh and say "no". I then spread the deck showing all gimmicks and ask her to name any card she sees. I place that "card" on top of the face up cards, and then turn the entire rest of the deck around and hold the card on top of the face down deck for her to sign. I have her sign twice on the card. I then just grab the two "top" cards from the deck and turn them over, turning over the next card in line so her card is now face down behind the next card. That is his card. He signs twice and I get rid of the rest of the deck and go on with the trick as usual. The whole thing adds humor and makes the handling super easy. I now have one card box mostly full of gimmicks and a second card box that is half full of replacements. After performing this a few times, I refill the original box, and make a few more replacement gimmicks to go into my "refill box".
It took me around four days to create one fully gimmicked deck. KJ |

Anyone still willing to make up a deck of these for $? I'd be willing to pay for them, but the current price on Penguin of $40 for 5 gimmicks is a bit steep for me.

Anyone selling gimmicks for less than the cost of the full trick?
